  2. Get rid of it. It was deleted in later cars. It is supposed to stop brake 'knock-off'.
  3. Hi all. Just finished putting all new brake cylinders and pipes in and was preparing to bleed everything. Unfortunately I've discovered a leak at the union where the pipe from the master cylinder goes into the 4-way connector on the chassis. From a little research I find it goes into a restrictor valve attached to the 4-way, part 116197. I had created a DIN/bubble flare but am starting to think the restrictor valve is not suited to a bubble flare and may need an adaptor or different type of flare. Looking down into the restrictor valve it does not look like a DIN type of "funnel" rec
  4. Is this the item that stands behind driver and passenger to stop the wind blowing your hair in your face? If correctly positioned and height they are an improvement to the coefficient of drag on a sports cars without the roof erected. I witnessed this in wind tunnel tests on modern convertible cars. It does all change though with windows up or down. Avoid the clear plastic sheet type, they cause different turbulence The type that has a mesh is superior. Ebay has people selling them, mostly from Europe, although a couple are UK stocked. search. https://www.ebay.co.u

  6. If I can make my overdrive work as it should this week I will give it a run. Where are you based in West Sussex ? Would you like the box of TrAction as well ? Please let me know. Richard & B
  7. Thanks for the link. I must spend more time on the Forum. I was in a hurry to get out in the local fields before any rain. The sky has cleared and tomorrow looks hopeful in the garage. Richard & B
  8. RobH wrote a lovely post about. General Technic, pinned on top, 3rd thread
  9. The ammeter should only show current going into or coming out of the battery. (Unless you have connected some other load to the battery side of the ammeter that is.) The ammeter should only register a charge immediately after starting. That should reduce to zero after a couple of minutes running and for the rest of the trip it should read zero except when idling with the ignition light on when it may show a small discharge in daylight and a larger one at night if the lights are on. If the wiring is standard, a constant charge with no load means either the dynamo is producing too much
  10. My car was set up on a Hunter Hawkeye system, the mechanic spent half a shift at it. The car drives like it's on rails, well worth the time & expense. Richard.
  11. Another question: When driving without lights, the amp meter shows approx 7-8 Amps. When swithing the lights on, it will fall back on "0". Never payed too much attention but have never realized in the past... Any advice which readings should be considered normal ? I should mention, that I have had the generator and regulator checked together by an expert who said, that the regulator needed some readjustment. Although I have no reason not to trust the expert, it would not be the first time, that touching a running system has not been a good idea ....
  12. Thanks for the replies guys. I think the shims are to adjust the toe in. Looks like I need to find a company that has a Hawkeye alignment system.
  13. Hi all Any ideas on wind deflectors for tr4a. Thanks
  14. As Rob said above : For modern relays the connection terminals are numbered rather than letters and the equivalents to the original are: C1=30. (brown/white wire), C2=87 (yellow/purple), W1=86 (white), W2= 85 (yellow/green)
  15. Thanks for the link to the fused relay prewired. This seems like a straight forward answer . Today I tried to turn the screws making my existing relay connections and they turned well. Is this modern relay ok for positive earth? It does not have a diode and looks simple to fit. I will need some instructions on connecting C1,C2, W1,W2 to 10,85,86,87. I plan to buy this one tomorrow Richard & B
  16. Started the TR6 today it’s the first start since New Years Eve. It had just over half a Tank of fuel in it and started first time after about a 2 Second turn on the Starter it also has no choke cable so a slight pull of the enrichment lever and it burst into life went for a 30 mile drive and alls good.
  17. Thanks Stuart, thought it would have been headlights out. They did it the easy way before and packed one side out with washers and didn't bother with a side bolt. I've put the side bolts in and it's made a huge difference with alignment. I'm about 8 mm out at the drivers corner so not too bad so far. Agree on the wings as there is a difference there but I haven't touched those yet. Thanks for the detailed set of instructions.
  18. Leave the rear catch off completely till youve finished alignment also the rear rubber seal. Loosen the cones at the rear just enough to move then you can align the rear end of the bonnet to sit in them and get the rear height right. Its too late to align the sides as that requires wings off to bend the inner wing rails to suit. The side rubbers sometimes need a little shave off if the gap is too narrow. Leave the headlamps out so you can get to the mounting bolts. Make sure the captive plates move OK in the frame, Leave the side strap bolts till youve finished the alignment as you may find th
  19. HI Peter I think that is the R/H inner Rear wheel arch, the two holes are for the captive seat belt nuts and the location indents in the middle of the item are for the rotoflex top shock absorber mount. Hope this helps Kind regards Andrew
  20. When i fitted strap 89 that stopped the rattle noise to mine along with the spring and plunger .
  21. Nice couple TR’s enjoying the Anglesey sunshine this morning. didn’t get to meet the owners unfortunately.
  22. Another advantage of a modern relay is that you can get them with standard replaceable modern fuses built in, something that I used for my electric fan on my car 30 amp fused relay
  23. Many thanks Howard, I'll try your suggestions when I get back out to the garage; probably not today as it's my wifes birthday and I would like to stay in her good books.
  24. Wow a 1 to 1 scale airfix kit!
  25. I concur. Fit engine gearbox and all suspension to make a rolling chassis. Regards Harry
  26. Had a great first half, jousting with one Richard Hammond, of Top Gear, The Grand Tour, etc etc, who was making a programme for TV ??? Lost him after the compulsory pitstop, but a most satisfying day! John
