  5. Thank you gents for your interest. As suggested I have polished the pipe ends using fine wet and dry and was then able to push on the correct olives with some resistance that was taken up by the 5/16th pipe nut when fastening.

  7. Hi Paul, thanks for the input, I think I might be making headway with this. I’ll post an update when things are clear but I do have a number now albeit still a bit of a story with it! Good luck with yours, at least you do have a reg even if it’s not the one you want.

  9. Yes, browse the web for „Loctite 55“, this is not so much different from waxed dental floss, both very useful. I have both, Loctite 55 in my workshop and dental floss in my bathroom cabinet
  10. Agreed, the A Type OD from a Standard Vanguard was 28% also - and has 8 springs unlike later saloons with just 4. Probably it'll need a look over John, so there's cost there for a buyer. I paid £100 for the exact same unit as yours and then another £400 to get mine rebuilt - so maybe this helps you value yours. Bob
  11. FWIW, I had noises from the filter, pump and/or hoses. I increased the tank outlet/ flow to the filter. I changed the hoses/connections from the tank to filter, filter to pump and pump to prv. With the standard fittings as supplied the hoses all turn through 90 degree banjos which I felt was not ideal for the smooth flow of fuel.I altered the connections to gentle curves and all has been fine ever since. Worked for me! Tim

  13. Have you got a fan with a viscous coupling ? Stags and TR7’s do and when they fail the vibration is horrendous.
  14. Still early days for me but my Bosch pump with 500 miles on it started making similar noises and the pressure at the MU dropped to 40psi = start/stop engine. No restriction from tank to filter found changed PRV to a modern type and so far the issue has gone away and the pump is slightly quieter. Maybe your PRV is also a bit sticky or the internal filter is blocking up, mine had some debris in it. Fingers crossed Definitely a learning curve. Just out of interest but once the systems niggles have been sorted just how reliable and consistent is the Lucas set up? Andy
  15. I had the same screeching noise, so loud you could hardly hear the engine. Tried a longer hose from the pump to the prv which helped a bit. Eventually fixed it by replacing the reconditioned prv with a brand new item. All quiet now. Laurence.

  18. I bought 1/8 inch solid lead fishing wire on Amazon. I wrapped it around the relief valve one time rip with a slight overlap, then tightened the valve down with the filter head in a vice. Backed the valve out and the wire had made a perfect flat washer. I was going to use solder but all I could find was hollow/rosin core. I would have fallen back to that if the fishing wire hadn’t worked. Jim
  19. I've just popped into the garage to check out my rocker box seal since I've done a few miles today:- I didn't want to invoke snooker commentator's curse! I can tell you that it still looks to be oil tight. The Triumph manual gives the rocker cover torque as 2 lbs ft. Over tightening just squashes the cork seal out of place. While there I thought I out to see how many ls there are in Wellseal (3) and now I have it on my fingers any hopefully not on this key board. Is that the curse? John

  21. 11th May 1964 and only just remembered. Still going strong and a lot more powerful than it left the factory. Amazing to think that 60 years prior it would have been a Veteran car!
  22. I suspect that just about every TR currently on the road could be liable to be issued with a Q-plate. Rather than all the talk of changing the club name, attracting younger members etc.etc. perhaps the Register should be focused on informing the current membership of where the stand with regard to the law. My concern is that the current, and future governments, have realised that there is money to be made out of Historic vehicle owners and I think that we may well be in for a nasty shock it the not too distant future.   23. I just loop a small length of cotton thread around the cork gasket at the manifold side and the coil side where the cork curves away from the rocker cover edge. Install the cover and tighten down the two nuts pulling the thread to keep the gasket against the cover edge. When the tightness of the nuts grips the gasket simply pull out the thread. Alternatively just cut it off. With this method I don't need messy glue or grease to hold it in place or even sealant, which I dislike applying and subsequently cleaning off. I did this first after an engine rebuild without using Wellseal gasket se
  24. With a standard cover. Coat the head surface with a neat even layer of Wellseal. Do the same to the valve cover face. I used a 1/4 inch flat paint brush. Apply a covering of wellseal to one side of the gasket. Allow the three faces to tack off. Place the gasket Wellseal face down on to the head. Cover the upper face of the gasket with Wellseal, allow to tack off. Place valve cover on the gasket. Tighten nuts to correct torque…? 16-18 lbft. Go have a beer and resist the temptation to run the engine for 12 hrs.
  25. +1 Works even better using a cast alloy cover. On race cars the rocker cover is off a couple of times a week, and after the same process on an alloy cover the gasket was carried on the rocker cover and sealed perfectly lasting for 3 years or more. Mick Richards
