  2. Interesting. I fitted what looked like exactly the same item to my center steering bar many years ago. When I changed to R & P steering last year I removed them, & the pins were as shiny as the day I put them in. No rust. I believe they were stainless steel. Mine came from The TR shop. By the way conversion to R & P is the best thing I have done to my '3 much lighter steering, zero play in the system, & very precise on the road. Just sayin' ! Bob
  3. I have always fitted viton tipped ones with no problems Bob
  4. Hi I have a Lucas LP 072T battery in my 4, it is rated @ 70AH I bought it last year from my local Motor Factors (we do have an account there but they deal with Jo public also) I think it was about £68, the terminals are on the bulkhead away from the retaining strap with the + earth terminal on the nearside, it does have a white label on the front and a classic Lucas label on the top, could always get a sticker as Stuart suggested.. 5. Over the last few months my steering has become increasingly stiffer to operate. I put it down to age. I even discussed fixing the problem with a rack and pinion conversion. Yesterday the steering became so stiff it was refusing to self centre after a turn, which was fun when changing lanes on the motorway. During that drive the steering started to 'creak' with any movement of the wheel. This I thought was dry steering indicator control head. When stopped I opened the bonnet and moved the steering wheel to see if the same noise would happen - It did, the noise was from th
  6. I use a good quality spirit wipe to remove glue without removing paint. Stuart.
  7. FWIW these days Im tending to see more and more very "Shiny on the top" cars that are the owners pride and joy and theyve polished them to within an inch of their lives but when you delve underneath or under bonnet are in a shocking state. They only do a few miles every year to local shows or Sunday drives out and the rattles etc are just taken as part of it being an "Old car" and until it actually stops or something falls off they very rarely actually get anything mechanical looked at. Even then they tend to take it to someone who may class themselves as a "Classic garage" but often that does
  8. Delrin needles are currently out of stock at Burlens so maybe contact them to see when they will be restocked, Viton tipped are actually just as good I think. Stuart.

  10. Hi Brian Lanoguard got a gig thumbs up from fellow group member recently John
  11. It will soon be time to give the underside of the TR some TLC so have been looking at the available products. Recently two products are being promoted on You Tube, Nutrarust661 rust converter and Lanoguard protective coating derived from sheep's wool. While not mainstream in the classic car world similar products have been around for some time. Just wondering if any one on here has used these two product and are they any good or just snake oil? Cheers Bri

    TR 6 Reifen

A load rating of 'only' 87 = 545kg per tyre. Kerb weight of a TR6 is 1130kg and allowing a rather generous 250kg for passengers and luggage, all-up weight could be 1380 kg. Assuming 50/50 weight distribution that is 345kg per tyre so there is plenty of margin to say the least.
  13. Phil over the winter I disassembled the oil filter head assembly on my 4A and gave it a good cleaning. Note that some of the fittings (the lead washer and balance valve spring for example) are not available from the typical parts suppliers, so you will have to source alternatives if yours are damaged. There was a bit of sludge in the assembly but not too bad. Luckily the only part I had to source myself was the lead washer, (though I decided to replace the check valve spring and the steel check balls with ones from Moss). I found some 1/8 inch solid lead fishing wire on Amazon that crushed int
  14. i improvised with a free euro pallet from work and four castors from machine mart that were kidding around at work David PS i have tidied the garage up its not normally that messy
  15. It also looks in your picture that the friction plate is off center??? I would re=center it also change the clutch RHP thrust bearing as they wear and are of a poor design in comparison to the INA one which is fully sealed and the grease does not fly out. bruce
  16. Hi HP, there's a great thread on tyres here and here and here that I hope will help you out. As a newer owner I'm very grateful for help all the time from longer term owners...
  17. hallo zusammen, fahre derzeit eine 16 jahre alten Vredestein classic und wuerde gerne gegen Kleber Dynaxer HP 4 in Groesse 185/70 R 15 tauschen. Der hat aber nur 87 W Traglast. Ist das egal? Dankbar fuer jede Antwort. LG
  18. Love all what you are doing Toby. Can I come over a make your tea! Regards Harry.
  19. I thought I'd bring this thread to a close with some good news: After many attempts to sort it myself, with lots of good suggestions from the forum above, I admitted defeat and took the box to the experts, Pete and Tom Cox. They found the box to be in good nick, apart from a missing circlip which axially located the shaft inside the bell housing. Apparently they had never seen this before, and were amazed I'd been driving it around for 25 years! Please don't ask me for more detail, I'm just pleased that when I put the box back in (again) I now have all the gears, going up and going
  20. About 8 years ago I built a bird box and fitted it with camera. Every year since then it has attracted blue tits usually laying between 5 and 8 eggs. They were late arriving this year, but the nest was built quickly and now we have 10 eggs waiting to hatch. We do realize that it’s likely that several will not make it, but we will have a few weeks of entertainment watching the progress.
  21. You may be thinking of the dimensions for the centralizing tool for the scroll seal halves ? Bob
  22. An alternative Halfords (also made by Yuasa apparently) for bulkhead terminals. At £65 plus TR discount a cheap alternative. This one has distilled water top up facility like the one in the car. 56Ah and 500CCA and 242 x 175 x 175 size is also similar. Quite happy to hide this label! Interestingly it says recycle for free at Halfords but locally a scrap yard pays you for old batteries. Just need to be registered with them which I am. Keith
  23. As Mick above says on the day the vehicle is presented it needs to meet the requirements which some may find this hard to believe can vary hugely between test stations , one person’s opinion on wear is different from others. When l use to attend testers refresher courses the vosa instructor told us of an incident where a two cars pulled up on the street visible to the garage whereby the wheels were switched the car presented and passed the mot then back to the street and wheels were switched again nothing could be done because the vehicle passed when presented . There’s plenty of other example
  24. I seem to remember reading that the machining dimension for the oil seal diameter had been incorrectly quoted in some documents. If this is the case and your crankshaft has been machined in this way there may not be a seal that will stop the leak. Neil
  25. I accept that an MOT might mean nothing but I do think that a pile of MoTs especially when no longer legally required does say something about the owner. John
