  6. Interestingly my 1970 PI does not suffer from this, I do not have a swirl pot. My friends 1969 TR6 PI has this problem too. My tank has the little ring welded to the bottom around the outlet which, I think, acts as a swirl pot. Waldi

  9. There are lots of questions around Bosch fuel pumps but I dont see one that answers the question I have. The fuel pump inlet from Glencoe has a 16mm push on hose fitting exactly as my original failed Bosch pump had but the diameter of hose from the pre-filet is 10mm. The original hose looked like a piece of garden hose which was perished badly so I want to replace it but wondered what everyone was using. The distance is only about 4 inches or so between them meaning I cant get a reducer. I also cant find any 1/4 bsp fittings that have 16mm (or close) outlet as it needs to be a 90de

  11. Few years ago I went to race at Spa. The CSCC warned us that the Belgian scrutineers strictly applied full FIA regs (unlike in UK ) and that tanks should be filled with foam. So I did. The result was that the tank became the slow filler of all slow fillers. From pump or can took forever. The foam has gone now. It is a weakness of Lucas Pi that if surge allows air into the pump, the bubbles go all the way to the injectors. Unlike a carburettor where bubbles are ejected in the float chamber. I installed a swirl.pot with a lifter pump to keep.it filled to get over this problem
  12. I understand the fuel surge and engine cut out is a common problem. Mine (Tr5) seems worse on sweeping left handers when the tank level is approaching the 1/4 mark . A bit scary when pulling onto a fast dual carriage way ! I saw these foam tank inserts , I wondered if anyone had used them ?
  13. You can certainly swap the OD ratio in an A type by substituting a 28% gear set, but you can’t do that in a J type, or so I understand cheers Rich C-R
  14. Weren`t they always heavy at low speeds and when parking?. I don`t know because I have a steering rack and have never driven a TR with a steering box. One thing I do know is that steering boxes always wear in and around the straight ahead position, makes sense really as thats where they are used most. If the play is taken out of the box in that straight ahead position, then turning beyond that to a less worn part becomes very stiff. Sounds like your first garage may have just shimmed the play out in the centre leaving you with stiffer steering. Why not got to Revington TR with your spare
  15. You are correct, my mistake it was Esso I was meaning, not Shell. I use a nearby Shell station for my daily driver and my van, but used to go out of the way to an Esso station for the TR but no longer neccessary. Ralph
  16. Hi Ralph Shell has been putting ethanol in its V-Power for some time now longer than Esso, I believe shell and BP did it around the same time a few years ago.

Heat pumps can work but because they don't tend to heat the water in your central heating as hot as a gas boiler does 30-40 °C compared to 70-80°C for gas the radiators in the average home just won't transfer enough heat at 30°C to work so bigger radiators are needed. However that temp is fine for under floor heating in a well insulated house. Getting your heat pump to deliver higher temperatures reduces its efficiency. Add to that the current price of electricity (to power a heat pump) is greater than gas (for the boiler) is a consideration. However if you have enough solar power &
  22. Changing the overdrive ratio is straightforward. I run a 3.7 diff in my 6 and changed the ratio of the overdrive to 28% to give a motorway cruise rpm similar to the 3.45 and the standard O/D ratio. So, assuming it fits a TR then its having a 28% ratio shouldn't impact its value hugely. The usual suspects like Dave Twigger and Tom Cox will be able change the ratios for not too many bucks.
  23. Both my foam door caps have disintegrated. Advice please on correct glue to use when fitting new ones.
  24. Apparently Northamptonshire have the wort roads in the UK. A U/J is one of those things worth keeping in the boot when touring. I had one disintegrate on the IOW but sorted within a few hours.
