  3. Luckily I have had my cars for more than 25 years and made modifications some time ago. It would seem they are most concerned about modified rather than replaced items and I think this will keep the government’s nose out of most our rebuilding work. However, is a tr4 engine in a tr2 like for like or modified? Girdling axle? I have reported all modifications to my insurer’s religiously and I’m glad I have as I will have an audit trail when our hobby becomes out of step with future attitudes. My cars are always taxed and insured and constantly in use from a government perspective. I saved
  4. The revington pre filters works in my experience . There is more than one size of the pre filter & outlet These can be purchased elsewhere Changing from Bosch setup to Sytec setup may well need a redesign of the short filter to pump hose link . I have my filter / pump sitting outside the boot . Many reccomend runninga seperate relay electrical feed to the pump and doubling up on the earth .I have down this using a relay with a fuse. robin
  5. Well from my understanding then everyone who’s changed their chassis or had more than 25% body panels changed in a restoration will need a Q plate registration Chris

  8. Enginuity in Acton are very good. Rebuilt my engine 6 years ago and it's been brilliant ever since.
  9. Hi TRier i would ask the tr4 registrar to check his records in case the car was ever owned by a tr register member. Keith
  10. Hi all, conundrum here - in an old but almost perfect paint restoration ( formerly Neil Revingtons Police TR4 ) I have a 20 cm vertical /crack defect close to door hinge; I thought it was a fine crack in a skim of filler. Bodywork guy in a very high end Bentley restoration shop near me thought it was more likely due to a door strap malfunction some time in the past. His advice on wisdom of repair was negative due to difficulty in matching almost 20 year old white paint. "If you can live with it leave it" and I must confess it isn't very obvious but stares me in the face when cleaning old Dixo
  11. Today
  12. Good afternoon need some advice for the correct vacuum pipe for my 66 TR4A any links much appreciated Thanks
  13. Day trip to Wickes. I wasn't sure how well the timber would fit. These were 2.4m long, but I recon I could have got 3m in without a problem. The boot rack came in useful.
  14. Thanks again - Car up on stands today and all 4 wheels have been balanced. They were all off a 2 were badly off. Will fit later and let you all know -
  15. Hi all, I know this is in a way in the wrong section but people here may own or have owned a TR4 in the past of have the knowledge I seek so I have to ask .I recently bought and pulled a TR4 out of a barn where it has lain for almost 40 years. I have the commission number and plate and from that the Heritage Cert which gave me the info in the title above. Commission number is CT/37220-O, black on black car with a black surrey and wires. What I dont have is any other documentation for the car and the vendor I bought the car from doesnt know either what the reg number was, I havent been in touch

  20. Has anybody had any experience of fitting a Speedi sleeve on a less than perfect crank? I'm wondering if I have to remove the lip on the back of the sleeve, if I do need to is there enough room to do so? I imagine the lip would be up against the face of the bearing or the block preventing it being torn off backwards.
  21. I read years back that Mercedes Classic white should be very similar in nuance to the Spa White.... perhaps that can help. /Niels Peter
  22. Things are going well with the Tr.3A . I left the Tonneau out in the sun today and there was no improvement. I tried using some pliers to grip the fabric and pull it tighter but there was no movement. At the back of the garage there was a box with the hood inside. Under the hood was a different Tonneau. I tried it on the car and it fitted well in a few minutes. It is in the hot sun now and I will report if it is too loose tonight or becomes "boggy" I like to use it because I parked outside the local bakers shop and with no cover all the tools and parts were dangerously exposed. So I

  24. Dady

    No brake lights

I have brake lights! As suggested by RobH it was indeed the switch that had failed. Thanks to all for your invaluable input as usual. Also thanks to my local independent Landrover specialist who provided the new switch! David
  25. I never tightened my wheel bearings and he gave the wheels a right good shake with no movement. Its the day after the MOT so the car is back in my garage just in case its no longer roadworthy Phil.
