RogerH
Hi Bob, I'm sure that tool will not fail. But when it does how about using a fisherman's landing net. These are usually 8ft long and can be easily made longer. Roger
Waldi
Hi Bob, Over here many people a “magnet fishing” with very strong permanent magnets. If there is anything magnetic on your light than could be your plan B. Good luck, Waldi
RogerH
Hi Waldi, hardened canal users always carry a BIG horseshoe magnet for gathering up lock keys that others drop. I fear that Bob's futuristic LED lamp will have nothing of the industrial revolution about it - All Alli and plastic. No Iron. Roger
Hamish
Good luck bob. I think this escapade need videoing on a phone by someone. At least this way it could be worth £250 (you’ve been framed) so you can buy another light.
Lebro
All alloy construction (& some glass) Have already ordered another in case I fail. They are ridiculously good value for money. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/72W-LED-Work-Flood-Square-Spot-Light-12V-24V-Off-Road-Truck-Car-Boat-SUV-Lamps/152900791447?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649 Bob. RogerH
Hi Bob, I see that it is IP67 sealed - it may still work when you drain the canal. Roger
BlueTR3A-5EKT
I note the item is described as a flood beam.....did you plan that? Peter W

A lot of bad words were said (damm, bother etc) I think you needed to take more water with it, don’t drink the canal or Thames water when you drain it though. stillp
Just call the local police and tell them someone threw a gun in the water. Pete
Ian Vincent
So when is the moment of truth Bob? Rgds Ian
Lebro
Well, the "special" tool, even with a torch attached, failed to locate the lamp. It was excellent at recovering various small logs, and large stones though. Luckily I had taken along a Plan B - a garden rake. after around 6 or so sweeps of the area, carefully lifting whatever I had collected up out of the water, The lamp appeared balanced on the tines. It is now completely dismantled for washing in clean water, drying, & re-assembling with plenty of sealant. As you can see the IP rating was not quite up to scratch. Bob. Bob. Lebro
It was at 1½ Mtrs for 48 hours !

Z320
Hi, this was one of the first tools I made for my TR4A about 10 years ago, very durable and still in use... Shure someone else has one like this in use and posted it already. Ciao, Marco

ed_h
I like it! If you carry a hydraulic bottle jack, it could double as the handle. Ed
Hamish
Possibly a naive question. But wheel nuts have a torque figure. is there one for centre spinners and how do you set it.
