Hi Bob,

Over here many people a “magnet fishing” with very strong permanent magnets. If there is anything magnetic on your light than could be your plan B.

Good luck,

Hi Waldi,

hardened canal users always carry a BIG horseshoe magnet for gathering up lock keys that others drop.

I fear that Bob's futuristic LED lamp will have nothing of the industrial revolution about it - All Alli and plastic. No Iron.

Good luck bob.

I think this escapade need videoing on a phone by someone.

At least this way it could be worth £250 (you’ve been framed) so you can buy another light.

All alloy construction (& some glass) Have already ordered another in case I fail. They are ridiculously good value for money.

Good thought Waldi, but for this job a light magnet will be more appropriate.

On moving from boat to jetty I slipped, & in saving myself I managed to drop the lamp into the water.  A lot of bad words were said (damm, bother etc)

I think you needed to take more water with it, don’t drink the canal or Thames water when you drain it though.

Well, the "special" tool, even with a torch attached, failed to locate the lamp. It was excellent at recovering various small logs, and large stones though.

Luckily I had taken along a Plan B - a garden rake. after around 6 or so sweeps of the area, carefully lifting whatever I had collected up out of the water, The lamp appeared balanced on the tines.

It is now completely dismantled for washing in clean water, drying, & re-assembling with plenty of sealant.

As you can see the IP rating was not quite up to scratch.

the IP67 rating is for 1Mtr or so for 30 minutes.

And the acceptance condition is that "ingress of water in quantities causing harmful effects shall not be possible", so I would say it passed!

It was at 1½ Mtrs for 48 hours !

You’d need IP68.5 for that, approx!

Possibly a naive question.

But wheel nuts have a torque figure.

is there one for centre spinners and how do you set it.
