Having had a 123 ignition system for about 14 years, I would like to upgrade to 

The latest usb bluetooth model that you can ajust/tune, from your phone,

Could some one advise the best price, company, to purchase the item

The prices tend to be fairly close - I bought mine from Holden who happened to have a special offer on at the time. Best bet is to research the different suppliers and then wait for sale-time - many have Spring Offers so you may be in-luck soon.

I would be careful with the BT version. The connection does not seem to be reliable. Please read the user experiences yourself.

I had a Tune (with USB) in my TR (now EFI), and currently a Tune with USB in my Bug. The main challenge ist getting the negative pressure curve. In general, tune it once, after that, forget about it.

As far as I see it the benefit of the bluetooth version is that you can hop between curves. However unless you are likely to be regularly swapping from 100 octane to lawn mower petrol the need for such changes are infrequent. Once you've done a distributor swing on the rolling road for your usual fuel you are unlikely to need to change.

As Jockem has said the BT is a bit flaky in a number of postings, so more of a problem than a solution?

I looked at 123 distributers when researching the timing article for TRA a couple of years ago.  I don't use one but became conviced that the version(s) with dynamic curve adjustment is the way to go if a change to electronic is desired. The standard curves were generic UK Classic car rather than specific TR, modified TR or any TR on modern fuel. In the absence of a rolling road (best) then a lap top and a technician-passenger should work well. Being able to change the "static" setting rather than delta off it is another plus.  MikeJ

FWIW one of the best tuners around Dennis Vessey wont tune your car if it has the bluetooth version fitted. Theyre too unreliable in real world applications. Stick with what youve got Pink.

If the BT is as reliable as my smart speaker then run away!  Does the PC cable connected version has much the same features?

I fitted the tune+ back in about 2016? 

the unit has been 100% reliable as far as the engine running and performing

however the app and rev limiter have been disappointing 

the app seems to work ok on Apple but i never managed to make it work reliably on Android

the rev limiter does work but seems to be off as to the revs it applies at

I fitted the Bluetooth version nearly three years ago to my TR4

I used an iPad to set-up and never had any connectivity issues and I’m very pleased with it, can’t recommend it enough.

Another plus for me is the inbuilt immobiliser which is turned on & off from my IPhone, again I have never had an issue.

I bought direct from Holland and even with vat & shipping I saved some money and it arrived promptly within 5 days.

Cost - 359 euros + 17 Euros shipping + vat = £367 but you may be able to find it cheaper elsewhere, I couldn’t.

I believe this is the one to go for, ?  I am going to holland this year to the summer meet, so I might be able to make arrangements to buy it when I am over there

So if you want to tune your engine or have an engine that does not have a standard distributor available... the 123/TUNE can help you out. A 3-way map switch is quite entertaining, especially in full fat mode.

Hi Pinky,

I have the USB version of the 123 Ignition in my TR6. It's built into the body of a an old dizzy and functions perfectly. It was done by Harry Hebels of 123ignition-conversions.nl, who specialises in these conversions. He's based in Eindhoven, a nice drive from the TR meet in Holland this summer.

I wouldn’t have thought there would be a huge difference in performance from 2 ignition maps, assuming they are not wildly out of parameter for the engine. One for regular unleaded and one for super perhaps.

Efi is a different matter in that there are more mapping options to enable fuel and ignition settings to suit different throttle settings. Leaner, richer, advanced or retarded for optimum fuel economy or power with a compromise between?

yes, that is the one and only reason to switch between the two curves with the 123 Tune USB.

It would be interesting to see how the advance curves find to be the optimum differ from the standard choice of curves on the non programming versions. (I think there are 8) 

If we find that all we are doing is replicating one of the standard options then it might be easier to justify the selection of the standard 123 over the BT or USB  options.

I’ve often wondered how sensitive a TR engine really is to variations in timing. My mildly tuned 4 pots seem to run well “anywhere close” even though I  make a big effort to optimise things.
