brenda
Morning all it’s time for new tyres on my 4a had a chat with the guy at Stoneleigh yesterday, has any one got or used these tyres, what did you think of them and what sort of mileage did you get out of them? 165vr 15 Brockley Radial. ianc
Both Neil Revington and Tony Sheach have recommended BLOCKLEY to me, as I am about to change tyres and am intending to return to 165 VR 15 size. Perhaps a Moderator would amend the spelling of the title ? Ian Cornish
Hamish
I’m sure iain went this route with his works car. he’ll be along later I’m sure blockleys have always had a good reputation. As to how long they last on Brenda with your mileage ??!!
John Mellor
I thought Blockleys we're too expensive for a low mileage road car. Plumped for Vredstein Ttrac2 via black circle and fitted local to me. Very happy with them, a world different from virtually unused but 15 year old xply Dunlop. Quieter, better ride and much better grip
iain
As H says I use Blockleys, swapped from T Trac 2 for summer use. They need scrubbing in before they really perform, but that’s no hardship. Iain. ps Still use Vred Snowtracs for winter use when legally required.
monty
I did find that Blockley tyres were quite pricey a couple of years ago when I needed to replace all round, so went for Vredstein as my mileage is only around 2000 or so a year these days. Tyres tend to crack etc before the tread wears! Happy with the Vreds.
ianc
Blockley's price list, picked yesterday from stand at Spares Show after discussion with salesman, shows 165 VR 15 at £122 + VAT = £146.40. Appear to be the most expensive radial in this size. Ian Cornish

brenda
Looking around the price of things they have definitely gone up, just been quoted £30 + Vat each, to remove my old tyres and fit new tyres and inner tubes supplied by myself. Mike Redrose Group That's very toppy for tyre swaps. You should be able to get it for less than that. (A little place near me does them for a tenner a tyre, although that's without fitting tubes.) [EDIT: and that's wheels supplied loose, ie not having to put wheels on/off the car]. Nigel Edited February 14, 2023 by Bleednipple

ianc
Whitewalls are HORRIBLE - but that's just my opinion, of course. Ian Cornish

Mind thin whites dont look too bad, similar to the red line tyres that were popular on US models. Stuart.

Andy Moltu
It's noteworthy how certain brands of tyre get promoted for classics. A year or two back it was Colway. Now it's Blockley. My cynical head kicked in when it was apparent Colways were retreads. How do you get consistency when your car may have four different tyre carcasses, albeit with he same tread pattern and rubber? A company may make specialist race or rally tyres for classics but does that mean their offerings for road cars are better than those who just sell standard tyres? BlueTR3A-5EKT
I had Colway tyres on 2 cars. 185/70/15 did not last very long 15-20k but were very well behaved in the wet.

brenda
Well I’ve made my mind up, I’ve gone for Vredestein T Trac 2 £50 each, tyre change and installing tubes (supplied by me) balance £15 each, hopefully get a few years out of them. james christie
Vredestein T Trac, you won’t regret. I ran their Sprint Classic for eight years on my 3A but with a serious hike in the price and the low mileage I do, I turned to the T Tracs 165 x 15 and haven’t regretted it but I cannot say that my driving is ‘spirited’ nowadays. The spare is a nonentity Chinese affair 155 x 15. I’ve never been convinced by remoulded tyres, Colway, Blockley or any other, (except when an impecunious student many years ago), in spite of their promotion by those that know more about these things than I. james Edited February 15, 2023 by james christie
