TR6 with a BMW Engine !

Recommended Posts

I think you would need a very specialised insurance quote on that, look at the front suspension for a start and yes Niall if that engine bay has been restored I wouldnt like to see the rest of it. No thanks chaps.

Insurance shouldn't be an issue, my TR6 V8 costs no more to insure than a standard TR6.

Simon

Now that I would like to see, apologies as I am sure you have been asked this loads of time, do you have any photos of it on the forum?

Did you use a Stag V8 or Rover or something totally different

Hi Pete,

looks like the trunnion may be touching or it has picked up a stone.

Roger

I get stones stuck in various parts of our cars discs, have a gravel drive and can be a real pain (same wit Dr Martins shoes too, gets embedded in the tread but far less hassle with shoes than discs - can sound horrific too.

Lower inner wishbone mounts are welded directly to the side of the chassis rails! Unless they have done some re-enforcing thats just on a straight box section

You are probably thinking of Alan Atkinson who has a very nice BMW powered TR250.

Alan's is Chevy powered isn't it?

A friend local to me gets over 200 BHP at the wheels from his S/C'd TR6. At 75 years of age he loves to drag race just about anything, recently besting a Porsche Carrera with it.

I'm with Paul; better to keep the TRIUMPH engine in a TR. When Neil R. pitched an EFI system to me years ago I said " If I wanted all that technology I'd buy a Z3 ". Old school is still my speed ;) .

For something new in old clothes I'd consider: http://www.kirkhammotorsports.com/products.shtml

Cheers,

Tom

I do like the bmw straight six, and if forced to change out the TR motor thats what i'd go for.

(Especially an Alpina 3.4 300bhp version )

But the TR 2.5 MFI motor is such a part of the car's character that i cant see it not being ruined with the BMW motor?

Interesting, yes! But it's not my thing. I'm sure it goes like the proverbial off a shovel and offers a smooth driving experience, but I get all that with the modern motor. One of the things I enjoy about ownership is looking at that old straight 6 Triumph engine (albeit with a fair few new bits bolted to it). And I'm obviously not alone in that, because when I do shows, I get far more interest in the car when I lift the bonnet.

Each to their own, of course.
