Mk2 Chopper
As the title says i had a problem fitting the four seasons heater valve, the old one came out with no issue, I fitted the new one with some thread sealant even the rubber pipe went back on just fine, But I wasn't sure how tight to do it up, and so as the thread sealant says you can reposition up to four hours I thought I'll tighten it some more to be sure, that's when I noticed the valve would no longer turn with the lever! I took it off again and I can't see where I've bent or pinched the housing, but it didn't take a lot for the top part to start spinning instead of the valve inside, so it's had it. If i get another one, how do I put it back on? How tight is enough? Would the thread sealant (permatex) have held if had I just left it the 72 hours of curing time the first time? Cheers Gareth
stuart
When fitting them I usually just tighten down with some liquid PTFE until they are in the correct position using a spanner on the hex portion and when its reasonably tight and lined up then that will be fine. I have fitted quite a few with no problem and I would have thought the thread would give up before any other distortion would occur.if over tightened. Stuart.

Thanks Stuart, I'm not sure why it's locked up but I think the final turn was pretty tight and maybe distorted the body of it, I'll do it again and not over do it next time! Can anyone please tell me what a 'Four Seasons' heater valve is??? Tom. Hi Tom, it's an American brand heater valve that's pretty much a drop in fit for the original type
jogger321
....and where I can get one as I live in the UK (Its apparently far better than the Triumph item in terms of quality and life) Edited July 16, 2018 by jogger321
Mk2 Chopper
....and where I can get one as I live in the UK (Its apparently far better than the Triumph item in terms of quality and life) I got mine from Amazon.com, They work out the import duty etc, comes to around £34 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000C2UVQ4/ref=od_aui_detailpages00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I think I've found out how I broke mine, there is a weld on the hex portion and i was using the wrong tool, a self tightening wrench, which i think pinched the very lower edge by pressing the weld inwards, I'll be using the correct spanner next time! Mk2 Chopper
Brilliant thanks...Been after one for a while ...Just ordered one from Amazon Whats the best way of fitting the cable at the heater valve end on these ? Two simple ways, either bend a hook in the current cable or crimp/solder an electrical eyelet on the end.

Mk2 Chopper
Hi What is the gains by putting this in? Sorry for ignorance... Rich Supposed to be more reliable, and works better (the valve opens and closes easier)
stuart
1. a lot more reliable, 2. gives a proper unrestricted flow to the heater, 3. much easier to operate. Stuart.
ed_h
Whats the best way of fitting the cable at the heater valve end on these ? A little stub of metal rod and some drill press time will yield a very neat solution. Ed

Z320
but I see no reason to change the original construction now, it works without any problem since years, I'll keep that in my mind . Edited July 18, 2018 by Z320
foster461
but I see no reason to change the original construction now, it works without any problem since years, I'll keep that in my mind . It is just a question of when, not if, the rubber diaphragm will fail. Usually in October when you turn the heater on for the first time. Stan
Z320
Hi Stan, when I have to change I will fit the american valve, until this I will hold my eyes open on every cassic car market. I do not want to go to the customs if not absolutely necessary. That costs me always 2 h at all. Ciao Marco

TR NIALL
We as TCOC bought 10 of these Valves direct form Everco in the States when they arrived in Ireland we divided the total cost by 10 so we all got a Valve for €24 a pop,Happy Days.
