Grease Gun Needle Adapter

Recommended Posts

I want to grease the UJ's and the standard gun fitting is too big to get onto the UJ  grease nipples, has anyone bought a needle adapter and is it any good, if so which one did you buy?

Do your uj s have the long style grease nipples like these?  Might be your solution.

Alternatively anything here?  https://www.hle.co.uk/shop/grease-nipples-connectors-accessories/

I have the long style nipples Peter mentions sbove, I can apply grease with my standard large gun.

The old style (often black) “hand push” grease guns often work well too.

BAD IDEA!

That will make the propshaft more unbalanced,

change not to much from the way it has been balanced,

it spins max with the engine‘s revs!!!

Fit long ones to grease then put back the short ones to run.;)

It looks as though Stuarts suggestion is ok, or a Sealey needle fitting, but is putting in longer nipples easy as a socket will not be long enough and a spanner will not fit? or will long nose pliers do the job. Not investigated yet but the outer wheel hub ones maybe the most awkward.

Unless your prop was balanced with long grease nipples fitted, you will cause imbalance.

Frustratingly I took my 4A prop to Dave Mac in Exhall only to have it condemed as too worn to waste money on balancing. Unfortunately the balancing machine went down last week only to be fixed and the balancer to go down with Covid. Hey ho.

I buy new props from Proptech https://www.kidderminster.co.uk/info/92/

Reason being IRS cars tend to wear the splined section badly in one place as the prop doesnt slide in and out like it does on a solid axle car so theyre often scrap. People often think its play in the diff when its actually in the prop.

Theirs also have the larger Hardy Spicer joints too and not hugely expensive.

+1 for Proptech

To be fair I've used Dave Mac for 30 years and the likes of Jigsaw used to use them before they closed down.

Kit brakes and covid strikes.

Again had a set of driveshafts from Proptech which showed no signs of wear when they came off for a set of CV driveshafts & new hubs.

Oh, and if your grease gun nozzle is not a good fit, place a rag (with a tiny hole in) over the nipple before applying the nozzle.

Can make enough of a seal to get the grease 'in', rather than 'all over' the UJ.

Just a thought, price of grease n' all.........!
