Lord Flashart
Drove the car the twenty kms into town today and it was fine on the highway, but on getting into town it started to bog down and refuse to rev at low rpm. Once the rpm got higher 3000-4000 everything was fine. I managed to limp home and it seemed to clear on the way. I've checked just about everything I can think of, and everything seems ok. Took it for another drive and it was fine, albeit maybe not revving as freely as before. Any ideas? Paul
cliveinfrance
Hi Paul... have you checked the carburetor ??? Hopefully the problem will be something simple to remedy, even if it is a beggar to locate. Best of luck Stella
Andrew Smith
Paul, Worth checking for crud in the float bowls blocking the jets - I had a similar problem with TuRK a few weeks back and there was a sort of gloop in the bowls (particularly the first one) so cleaned it out and fitted an in-line filter and all is fine. ctc77965o
Vacuum advance packed up? Points half corroded after winter slumber?
Badfrog
I vote for petrol crud too. Badfrog
Ade-TR4
Did it still have the same petrol in it from before you lain it up for the winter? If so, it's probably knackered fuel - put some juicy V-power/ BP ultimate etc in it. Take it for an Italian Tune-up Ade
RogerH
I like the over advanced ignition theory and maybe slipping somewhere. Roger
TR 2100
If the problem seemed to clear, if not fully, a bit more driving is called for. But maybe not too far from home - just in case. The problem may clear, or develop more symptoms that will help diagnose the problem. Better, though, to first check out the 'crud' suggestion. AlanR
LGFromage
Water (condensate) in fuel? If so why not try some fresh petrol in the tank and an Italian tune up - ie some spirited driving. Tim
Lord Flashart
Cheers chaps, I'll throw a new set of points and a condenser it and take it for the "Italian tune up"! I just hope this in not another summer of breakdowns!! Paul
Dave Ashworth
I was going to suggest condenser, but you now have that covered. All the best, Dave
Peter Cobbold
Sticking needle valve in float chamber > running too rich. ?

North London Mike
Peter You stole my thunder.............I had a sticking needle, 2nd choke wouldn't return. Fine when you first set of but gradually chokes itself to death. Although I solved / fixed it I'm always checking now and waiting for the fault to re-appear (bugger)
Lord Flashart
Interesting, I'll have a look at the needles too! Cheers chaps. Good news is that the run on has disappeared!!! Paul
Lord Flashart
It was too rich! I leaned it off a little and it's running much better with loads more power. Interestingly the dieseling is still absent so I'm fairly happy. I'm trying to drive it everyday to blow the cobwebs out and try and get some confidence in it so I can take it further afield. Dave Larnder
Paul Don´t forget you have to have it running sweetly for when we go down to your local TR shop in June! Dave

Lord Flashart
Unfortunately not Tim, I have an accounting exam on Tuesday at college so I'm studying all weekend. Should get an hours blast at some point though! Dave, don't worry it'll be running in June!!! Paul Edited March 31, 2013 by Lord Flashart
