Brackets and others for rear suspension rebuild

Recommended Posts

Hi all

I travel to blighty over Xmas from Daneland so will bring some bits back for my upcoming rear suspension rebuild over winter, but am unsure if I should pre-order these or assume mine are ok after 50 years?  Its not big beer money but why waste if the originals are still good?

Note  - don't have time to strip backend before coming over so cant really check on existing condition.

I normally blast and powder coat mine and re use. Its the bolts i change every time and Nyloc nuts even smaller beans but saves a whole world of pain!

Hi Richard,

the brackets can/do crack.  Have a look at the top and bottom faces in line with the vertical attachment holes.

If you can see a crack  -  they are broken.:o

If you can't see a crack - they are breaking :P

Shims, bolts, bushes (complete kit) worth getting.

I just mounted the adjustable brackets and it's a real value for money.

Still have to use the shims to toe in setting, start with original settings.

The camber adjustment is easy.

There are a few YouTube tutorials that helped.

Hi Richard,

I grit-blasted mine and visual-inspected them, they were fine to I re-used them.

I think a couple of years ago bad reproduction items were brought on here.

Hi Roger, thanks for replying
I believe you are a bit of an expert on the subject of metal stress  if memory serves me right, so are you saying replace a brackets.?

Hi Richard,

No. Do not replace the brackets unless they are broken.  You will see if they are broken.

I spent most of my engineering life looking for and finding cracks/corrosion and everything in between.

Metal stress and crack faces came along as an incidental.

Thanks for the constructive replies

I am about to hit "order" so my stuff arrives for my UK Xmas trip but on this subject of brackets, is it worth buying those adjustable brackets as I read using shims only adjusts toeing, but not camber.  Any thoughts?

Richard

Sadly I bought a pair from "Racinggreen" / Germany a few weeks before Wiel introduced his brackets.

Wiel‘s look very inconspicuous, with mine I got stupid questions at the TÜV because „not original“ / H-conform.
