woodward
Hi, Does anyone know of a company that will replace windscreen glass in a TR4? I'm struggling to find someone as all the major companies only seem interested in insurance jobs. I have found one but they keep slipping my appointment as they're too busy. I'm in the Bath/Bristol area and can travel a bit if needed. I did try the local TR group but no luck. Thanks in advance for any recommendations you have. Thanks Myles
mike ellis
Hi Myles, It is probably a bit far for you but there is a good company in Guildford. Some years ago Addison Glass copied and fitted some glass into my factory aeroscreens. Very pleased with the result. Mike
ianc
Revington TR at Middlezoy, Somerset, can do this for you. They will source the screen and fit it - and it doesn't take them long. Dan is the workshop manager. Ian Cornish
Drewmotty
Revington TR will see you right. Edited May 19, 2023 by Drewmotty
woodward
Thanks both - I have spoken to Dan already but they have no space for several months as they only have Carl in the workshop at the moment…. Myles
PodOne
Hi Myles Google classic windscreen replacement. There's bound to be some one man bands out there who will specialise in classic car glass to do this for you. Its more than likely the Revingtons have such a guy who comes in and fits the glass anyway so it will save you paying the middle man. Give it a whirl and see. PS Just buy a new rubber seal/trim I think Stuart recommends Moss last time this came up. Andy Edited May 19, 2023 by PodOne Added info
Mike59
Just fitted mine this afternoon using a new screen seal from Moss and the old trim from the previous screen which was in good condition. Two pairs of hands a piece of cord, patience and hey presto it's in. The hardest part is fitting the trim and finisher, my thumbs are still in recovery.

Mike, did you need any sealant with the Moss rubber? a fitter did a screen rubber change to a Moss one for me on Thursday and it didn't pass the hose test after, had to use sealant which was a bit dissappointing but I decided no point in refusing as it was leaking anyway. (BTW, chrome trim goes into the rubber before the screen goes into the car) Bob
Mike59
I normally run some w'screen sealant in after I've fitted the screen and rubber to the car. The rubber is a good song fit and it took two of us an hour to string it in. Never fitted one with the finisher in the rubber before but doubtful we would of got it in as it was very tight. ianc
At Revington, Dan & Carl fitted my new screen in 2017 - no need for anyone from outside. BTW, they re-used the old rubber, even though it had been on the car for at least 25 years and had a minor slit at bottom right corner - they said it would be better than a new rubber. They used some sealant after mounting the screen. Ian Cornish
Spit_2.5PI
Myles, I have this lot bookmarked, who are based in Chertsey, Surrey so probably no good to you. Please note that I've never used them and I can't remember which classic owner recommended them to me. But they state classic cars so might be handy to someone - Old School Windscreen Services No connection, etc. Cheers, Richard
keith1948
Hi Myles Last time I did a screen was the surrey rear one. I fitted the plastic (chrome) insert after the screen was in place. I coiled it up in a bucket of very hot water and used some washing up liquid in the groove in the rubber. The heat softened the insert and made the job fairly easy. I seem to remember that I used a tube of screen sealer between rubber and outside of frame. Make sure your insert is long enough or you will get a gap that is too long between the two ends. There is a clip that fits over the gap. Also make sure this gap is at the bottom. I had the surrey frame off the car and on the ground which made it a bit easier and was able to do it myself. Of course you wouldn't do the windscreen off the car so I guess that would be more of a 2-person job. Principle is the same though. Keith
TimG
Perhaps Capt Tolley's Creeping Crack Cure would seal your newly fitted screen. Should be invisible.
