Tim T
Can someone please confirm whether or not 5s had a light in the glove box please. I don' t think my previous 5 did. Project car has original glove box I think, complete with switch but no hole for the light and no wiring. Bill Piggotts book suggests that their would have been a light. Many thanks, Tim
Dave McDonald
Tim, I don't think the TR5 had a glove box light. Mine certainly doesn't and it doesn't have any spare cables hanging about. The wiring circuit diagram in the workshop manual Brown Book for a TR5 doesn't show a lighting circuit. Dave McD

Tim T
That's exactly what I wanted to hear! Strange that Bill's book suggests that there was one fitted. Many thanks all, Tim
RogerH
Neither on the TR250. It must have been a TR6 invention. Roger
tr graham
Not fitted on a 5 or 250 graham
Tim T
Does beg the question as to why the switch is there! Tim
Peter V W
Tim, Not a switch, just a spring to push glove box lid open. Peter V W
Tim T
Oh! Just learnt something. Cheers.
DenisMc
My TR5 has the bracket to mount the switch as shown in Peter's photo above. There is no switch, light or wiring visible, although the car may have had a new wiring harness when it was restored in 2000/01. I could certainly do with something to push the glovebox lid open! Tim T
The lid on mine never opens on the first push but with a firmer second push it always open. Cheers. Tim
DenisMc
I'll try it Tim. Thanks.
Mike JOnes
Delighted to read this thread as I am just putting the dash back together on my 250 and have the push spring but no electrics so have been wondering what I did with the light when I pulled it apart and where the wiring is on the new loom. I will sleep easier tonight....LOL
Jim F
Very surprised to hear that the glovebox lights weren't fitted as standard. My 5 came off the production line on the last day of production and is fitted with a glove box light. It might have been an after market fitment but I had assumed they all had them. My TR250 doesn't have one fitted, it has a mid-production run serial number. Jim

This appeared to have happen on the 4/4A Roger
Dave McDonald
The TR5 wiring diagram doesn't show any glove box light, internal light on the transmission tunnel or in the boot. Dave McD
