JohnRoberts
Who would be daft enough to put 25L of premium diesel in the tank and drive home for 4mls. then drained off and refilled with 20L of petrol. Any suggestions what to do next. JohnR
Nickffc
nothing much.....brim the tank with petrol...pull the injectors out to flush them through with petrol...it will smoke for a bit but once the diesel fully clears it should be fine.... did the same a few years back, not in the TR though.... i presume it drove home on the contaminated fuel..? Tom Boyd
Put fuel booster in, fill with super and go for a thrashing!!!!
Guest
Sell the car and get a Bus Pass... Diesel in a petrol car isn't too bad. Diesel is also a lubricant. Replace the oil in the sump as well. The level can rise because diesel will find its way down between the cilinder and the piston. TBH I have no idea what diesel will do with the Lucas injection system. Nick Jones
Fire it back up if it will (better chance if it's still hot) and drive it until it stops smoking. Job done. Don't do it again. Nick
JohnRoberts
Well I have given the fuel to a local farmer. Have cleaned the plugs and taken it for a fast run,but started a misfire after 2mls.think i need to clean plugs again. Will top up with more petrol. Bill944T
And, I thought this was going to be a topic about putting a modern diesel engine into a TR6 as I wondered what conversions are out there. I know, I'll go and wash my mouth out with soap........! I've fancied getting a 71/72 era Scimitar and dieselling that for a runabout once I've got my 71 TR6 back on the road. I've left it too late now to meet my intended target of Oct 2016 marking 40 years of ownership and 63k miles on the clock (assuming that I'm still flexible enough and the extra 4 stone will fit........) john.r.davies
I did this on the way back from a previous Classic Le Mans. My only excuse was, that it was Le Mans. This time it was 9L in a 40L tank. I completed the fill with petrol, and drive on. The escort barge said that I had seven colours of smoke coming out the back, and it was missing like the Unknown Soldier. This inaccuracy continued through two more fill-ups, until I stopped and cleaned the plugs, which still had liquid, I presume diesel in them. After that, no probs and it continued as previously, so clean the plugs (all I had was loo paper, but some brake cleaner or other solvent and air line would help), full up with good stuff, and she'll be right, mate. OAF939M
I put about 4 litres of super unleaded into our diesel Mercedes, realised my stupidity, stopped and topped right up with diesel. so about 55 litres diesel and 4 petrol, I didn't notice the difference. But many years ago with diesel Peugeot 504 topped up a whole tank with petrol and that was a professional drain out job. Now I check several times before pulling the trigger. Andy Moltu
Tesco in Wigston managed to put diesel into their petrol tank! The 6 pinkied like mad and put out lots of blue smoke. Drained an filled with petrol and all is well. Edited June 27, 2016 by andymoltu
