RogerH
The other week I fitted new EBC vented discs on the 4A in exchange for the worn out ones. I fitted new 'Greenstuff' pads at the same time. I've had previous ones to these for a while and found them OK. I don't normally compare pads (I haven't any to compare) but have been happy. Everything fitted easily (it's my car ). However the brakes were quite awful. I decided to bleed them and change the fluid within. No perceptible air came out but I was happier having new fluid in there. The test drive showed the brakes were still awful. The brakes slowed you down but there was no interest from the pads other than eventually stopping. I don't think I could have locked the brakes Today (before all the other angst arrived) fitted some Ferodo 2 4 pads. These were from the TR4 and must be 40 years old. There appeared to be a lot of copper in the pad material. The test drive was interesting from my part and the pads (they decided to join in). They stopped very nicely. Don't know their characteristics regarding temp range etc, but for me at the present I shall use these. Where can I get some new ones. Roger
Tom Boyd
Did you bed the new pads in? Tom
4Mal
Definitely need a good bedding in
Eddie Cairns
I put greenstuff on an MX5 a few years ago and they worked fine out the box no need to bed them in at all. Found them no better or worse that any standard run of the mill disc pad.
RogerH
There were no instructions with the pads.So I did what I normally do. But they were very poor. Roger
Alec Pringle
Once bitten, twice shy . . . . . if I come across those wretched green things again they'll get slung straight at the scrap stillage, saves the efforts of fitting and removing again . . . . . Cheers Alec

peejay4A
They squealed like blazes for me until I binned them. Hawks now are fine.

Roger Anyway instructions won't tell you to remove the protecting wax on the new discs before fitting ;-)
RogerH
Hi Stef, the EBC vented discs are not wax coated (unless it is a very recent thing). They certainly didn't look or feel coated. I shall ask the question (again no instructions) Roger
stuart
Always wash new discs off with petrol or brake cleaner to remove any protective coating regardless when fitting new. Greenstuff pads not recommended here too. Stuart.
TR NIALL
I threw those Greenstuff Pads in the Liffey a long time ago, they don't float either.
RogerH
Hi Niall, they must be in the sea by now as they certainly wouldn't stop in the Liffey My 50 year old pads are working well. Roger Edited April 14, 2015 by RogerH

monty
All very strange. I have Greenstuff pads on both the 4 & 4A & they appear to work fine! Used on the Castle Coombe track day last year on the 4 & they did all was asked of them. No fade & seem to work well in all situations. Both cars use silicone fluid. The 4A has vented holed discs fitted by the previous owner some years ago & the 4 has plain discs of unknown make. Greenstuff seem ok to me & better than the standard pads on the 4A, which were starting to crack. Cheers, Monty.
