McMuttley
Is Dzus what i have on my early 3A, i.e., about a half turn that attaches to a plate already bolted to the body ?
Don H.
When vivdownunder catches up with this thread, he's sure to remind us of one of his fellow members of the TR Register Australia who's been making and supplying these for several years. If you look at many of the sidescreen cars from the Australian guys you'll see these in place. Viv will also update us, I'm sure, on threaded v Dzus mounts. Here's Viv's car from the F1 driver's parade in Melbourne this year, with his windscreen-fastened mirror in view. And here's the info on their website, at the very bottom of this page. http://www.tr-register.com.au/Files/forsale.htm
Louis
I really like them, wish they were a little cheaper..

johnhodges
These are what I've got on my 3A, £24.95 a pair, but could do with the stem being a couple of inches longer, especially on the passenger side. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3-Round-Mirror-Sold-in-PAIRS-4-Stem-for-Harley-Davidson-Chopper-Bobber-/121366299183?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts_13&hash=item1c41fec22f [/url]">http://http://s1250.photobucket.com/user/johnhodges/media/TR3A%20439%20YUC/P1020933_zps6b240a70.jpg.html'>
Rodbr
Hi John, Have the same and if you move the stem to the forward hole on the passenger side and view through corner of the screen rather than side screen it improves the view a little.
Lebro
FWIW: I can see that this is a good solution to the "wing mirror" issue, but I prefer mine: It sits much closer to the body, in fact it protrudes out less the rear wing does. only drawback is the effort reqired to re-shape the mounting bracket to suit. door can be opened with Sidescreen on without disturbing the mirror, & visibility is very good. Rodbr
Fair comment and each to his or her own I suppose. My issue with any form of clamp mounting is the damage to chrome surface which may allow moisture to creep under the chrome and damage the under surface. If it does get knocked the clamp screws would do serious damage I would think but can't see the detail of the fitting. Rear view is a compromise if, like me, you do not want the resultant damage from fitted wing mirrors and also do not wish to start drilling the screen stantions. I had to shout rather loudly at an enthusiast at the weekend car show who was happily dragging his bike leathers with zips (casual draped other his shoulder) down the whole side of my car. Luckily not damaged but prams and mobility scooters need careful watching.
Lebro
OK, a bit more detail - my stantions were never perfect , & so I did not mind drilling two small indentations on the outer surface to locate the pointed grub screws. so it would take a very large knock to move the clamp. I would think that if the Dzus type mirror was knocked back (drivers side) it would drop off? The late TR3A's with the screw fitting stantions would perhaps be more suited to a mirror mounted this way ? As you say, each to his own ! Bob.
peejay4A
Diverting slightly. If you have a blind spot, and I do on the 4A with the flat mirror head that's the only option on the ones I chose, here is a solution I found. They're blind spot mirrors, just under 4inch diameter for trucks I think. They take some getting used to but completely eliminate the dangerous blind spots at the rear threequarters of my 4A. http://www.convex-mirrors.co.uk/html/mirrors/m-fxj007.php?gclid=CKDPlY6os8ACFYgIwwoduAYAIA
McMuttley
Bob, I broke my vice on Monday evening whilst trying to bend my arms as you have suggested / shown. I have ordered a new big metal working vice, but I am not worried about the flimsy bench that it will sit on ! Did you also apply heat whilst bending ? For the time being, when the side screens go on when parked up, i have quickly whipped off the mirror head rather than unscrewing the arm.
Lebro
Austin I'm sorry you broke your vice ! was it made from toffee ? No I did not use heat, but that would certainly help, it would also discolour the steel, but you may be able to polish it back to being shiny. You probably needed that new vice anyway. Bob. Graeme Robinson
This isnt totally related to the original topic but can anyone shed any light on this for me; I've just bought a 61 3a with a whole load of boxes of bits that I've been sifting through this afternoon. The widscreen pillars are recently re-chromed which is a blessing but the L/H one has two threaded holes that have been added at some point. It's a left hand drive car so I'm assuming these are to fix a mirror but has anyone ever come across anything that would fit? If I cant find anything I think I'll probably have them filled and get it re-chromed. Thanks Graeme

jean
Graeme, I would leave them as they are, you could temporarily close the holes with chrome screws until you find a mirror. An alu. adapter plate will also be possible to fit a mirror if you don't aim for originality.
jean
Here is another Harley mirror fitted to my 3A, The screw in type has also some disadvantages . If you hit it it will unscrew, even with adding a counter nut what I did, so keep the toolkit with you
boggie
I was considering buying a pair of the mirrors on DRIES.nl until I read the instructions: mounting:Drill DZUS on and provide the DZUS an M6 thread, connect the DZUS and mirror arm means a piece of M6 threaded rod or bolt cut M6 , between mirror arm and DZUS possibly a ring or nut M6 for a tighter finish. I assume you need the windcreen mounting plates I have seen on other models? Our car has the windscreen stantions bolted directly to the car with 1/4'UNF bolts. Does this mean these mirrors will not work unless I drill out the captives and fit an M6 nut? OR am I missing something (ducks for cover...)

Rodbr
The Harley ones advised on ebay screw straight in, If you add a tap washer over the thread it reduces the potential to unscrew. Edited September 6, 2014 by Rodbr
