RogerH
Just watched the first episode of Bagpuss on BBC4 from 1974. Not exactly a repeat as is so often the case but a silly breath of fresh air. Oliver Postgate and Peter Firmin at their best. Bagpuss, dear Bagpuss Old Fat Furry Catpuss Wake up and look at this thing that I bring Wake up, be bright, be golden and light Bagpuss, oh hear what I sing Roger
PodOne
+1 We put his generation of children's TV on for our two youngest grandchildren and they are as captivated as what we were. Along with Tales of the Riverbank to the Clangers. Are the powers that be missing something? Andy "Pandy"
RogerH
Spot on.
john.r.davies
That's being followed on BBC4 by an appreciation of Oliver Postgate, the film makers of Bagpuss and all those other delights!

Charlie D
I believe this is the only surviving clip of “Tales from Rubovia”. Enough to give a small child nightmares. Charlie.
RobH
That's one that passed me by. Looks more like Mr Bean fighting the Soup Dragon.
john.r.davies
Pogles Wood distinguished itself by being banned from the BBC! The Witch considered far too frightening for Children's Hour! They had a point - see about 4 minutes in: But did no one else have as favourite, Ivor the Engine? Steam engines, Welsh choir singing - Bread of Heaven indeed!
PodOne
Mary, Mungo and Midge, Mr Benn, Crystal Tips and Alister or my real favourite The Herb Garden - Still love to watch it with the grand kids and sing along! Ahh quality viewing.
SuzanneH
I watched Bagpuss as an adult when my son was a toddler, another of that time was Pigeon Street. I will never forget when said son turned to me asking “ do we live in pigeon street mummy?”. I was a fan of Mr Benn at the time and like Bob Le B’ ,as a child, loved Bill and Ben The Flowerpot Men and my most favourite Rag, Tag and Bobtail. I never liked Andy Pandy, he was creepy akin to Jimmy Saville, Luby Loo was alright though. When I first met Roger I thought he was mad as he would start communicating with me in “ Clanger” he watched this programme whilst working shift work. I on the other hand worked normal office hours and had never heard of The Clangers……! He kept going on about blue string soup and the soup dragon. We always have blue string available even now. I know someone who had a Clanger who used to very occasionally play it over the tannoy in a BA hangar, I wonder who that was? Edited February 12 by SuzanneH
BlueTR3A-5EKT
The very first episode of the Clangers was censored The first ‘swanny whistle’ exclamation was “the bloody door is stuck again”. According to BBC archives. ….and what about the names of characters in Captain Pugwash, the first black and white series…. Now let’s get some proper stuff Edited February 13 by BlueTR3A-5EKT
