John L
Was it a USA car perhaps, must be to do with crash impact? John
Mike C
I've seen similar braces used to strengthen up monocoque car's front ends for better handling. I've never seen them on a car with a chassis and they're usually more robust than this item.
CK's TR6
If the car still had its Dolly Partons, it would be evident why. Just ask any DDD.

Jonny TR6
Are these for chassis rigidity or for crash impact absorption?
CK's TR6
Like any DDD/F uplifting device, my 76 has both (and has had both since it left the factory). The upper one goes to the bumper (or main support for Dolly), the lower to the bracket (underwire if you will). Then, because overly heavy front end loads need ............more support, there are 2 bars that go straight forward to the lower edge of the license plate holder. look at plate 55, and all will be revealed. If you run straight into a buxom lass, the impact will be most absorbed (ing). Edited September 5, 2022 by CK's TR6
CP26309
Thanks all...spotted them on a car at a Classic car show, and had never noticed them before. I assume the chrome plating is non standard.
Kenrow
"Are these for chassis rigidity or for crash impact absorption?" Was a requirement for higher impact resistance Edited September 6, 2022 by Kenrow added info
