TR Paul
G'day mates... The radiator in my 1970 TR6 pi ('TRoy'), is starting to look fairly shabby (fins are starting to break away). I only had it re-cored in 2013, at a local radiator specialist, which doesn't seem to be a good life-span for a rad (?). My question is, where would be the best place to buy a decent (standard spec) TR6 rad? My default option would be TRGB, as their stuff is usually good, and reasonably priced. Or can anybody recommend a better source of radiators....? As ever, your knowledge & advice will be much appreciated. Best wishes, Paul.
rcreweread
Paul - I'm sure TRGB can sort you out with some good kit as they get a specialist to recore exchange units - these are not cheap but they are good,. However, have you thought about an alloy one like one of these - http://www.alicool.co.uk/rad-triumph.html Expensive but good - I can get a good discount off their price if you were interested - send me a PM if interested Cheers Rich

Chilp3
Hi Paul, I had an increased efficiency (capacity) radiator fitted to my TR6 by TRGB as part of an engine rebuild and other work. I was very pleased with the quality of the replacement radiator which has performed without fault since installation. Best Regards, Peter
TR Paul
Thanks Peter, that's good to know. Out of interest, how long have you been running this radiator? Cheers, Paul.
Chilp3
Hi Paul, Around eighteen months now but limited to dry days and 3,000 miles a year. Having said that it's worked perfectly even in heavy traffic during the summer. The benefit with TRGB is they stand by their products if you have an issue. Hope this helps Best Regards, Peter
TR Paul
Ok Peter, thanks for that. I've bought loads of stuff from them, & I'd agree with that statement. Best wishes, Paul.
Waldi
Paul, you can buy a very cheap aluminium radiator from a guy in Holland. Don’t be tempted, it appears not to fit. Waldi

Peter W PS Also be careful of Winner Racing in China for TR2/3/4. (They had a a positive review from a forum user for TR6) They use the wrong diameter main hose tubes, meaning the rubber hose never seal, and they fit small diameter pressure caps (Think Rice Rocket motor bike.) Again, got the money back.
TR Paul
Hi Waldi & Peter(W), thanks for your warnings regarding cheapo aluminium rads; I know that the real deal is expensive, & I also feel that such a unit might be considered 'overkill', on an otherwise standard TR (such as mine); I imagine a healthy TR cooling system on a standard car should be able to cope well with the British climate. Of course, I might have a different outlook when the Lottery finger points in my direction, & my TR6 gets an AC Cobra as a garage mate.... Cheers, Paul. AndyR100
If you do choose the Ali route, I have had a good experience with the the long-neck one for my 4..... picked up at Stoneleigh a couple of years ago for a cracking ‘show price’ at the end of the afternoon ........ Waldi
Hi Paul, If my radiator was defective I would have it re-cored with a higher capacity matrix, just for belts and braces. The choice between aluminium or original is also a matter of personal preference. Cheers, Waldi
DaveB66
Hi Paul If you decide to go down the route of re-coring your existing radiator I can recommend Northern Radiators (www.northernradiators.co.uk) who have rebuilt the radiator from my 2.5PI, like yours the fins had started to fall to bits. They do a lot of work for classic cars and can supply a range of upgraded cores, depending on the planned use. I know that you are on the south coast and they are in Leeds but it might be worth your while to give them a call. Dave

I've had too many bad experiences with aluminum and galvanic corrosion in the past to consider it for any application involving possible electrolytes.
