TwinCamJohn
My navigator has, unfortunately, made several biro marks on the door cards and I can't get them off! I have tried car interior cleaner, St Marc a household cleaner without javel in it, and methalated spirits. Any thoughts? The interior is cream.

Don H.
A traditional fix over hear is to spray and wipe with the cheapest brand possible of aerosol hairspray. White Rain on the shelves of our Walmart stores could be an option. I used this tip to remove ballpoint ink successfully from a leather sest once upon a time. WD-40 might be another option. It’s a surprisingly good oily stain pretreatment for laundry.
Rawls
+1 for WD-
TwinCamJohn
Tried WD40. No luck. Trying to find an old dear who will give me a couple of squirts of hair spray. Will contact the good doctor as above. How would one describe the make of the door coverings ? What is it in the hairspray that makes it work, Don ?
Don H.
My guess (and a guess only, John) is polyvinyl pyrollidone as the binder in some hairsprays. PVP is a synthetic water-soluble polymer with emulsifying and surface active properties. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polyvinylpyrrolidone
TwinCamJohn
Called on a friend today and his wife had some hair spray. I was in the TR so tried it immediately...................................no luck ! So I shall contact the doctor mentioned above. However, my hair stayed immaculately in place for the return journey. Only tested up to 80kph though (new damn limit)
Don H.
Well, it doesn't *always* work. You didn't use some fancy salon grade of hairspray, did you? It works best with the cheapest stuff you can find. The cheaper the better.
RUBY131
May sound silly but try wet wipes, they removed Biro from my 3 piece suit. Cheers Chris.
TwinCamJohn
Straight into the workshop and tried that.....no luck. Don, I used what the lady had and I wouldn't think it was a cheap one. I imagine the chemicals are the same? I'm waiting for a reply from the good Doctor.
RogerH
What is the material that the ink is on - leather, Vinyl etc. Cellulose thinners may remove the ink but it may also remove the material. Leather usually has a dye surface - be careful. Vinyl could go soft - be very careful. IPA is less violent. or acetone Roger
TwinCamJohn
It's the "vinyl" of which the replacement interiors are made.
RogerH
Hi John, start with the IPA and then acetone and then thinners. TRy on an out of sight area first. Roger Edited July 10, 2018 by RogerH
TwinCamJohn
Sorry, but what is IPA ?
RogerH
Hi John, sorry about that - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isopropyl_alcohol from ebay etc or your local chemist. Roger
TwinCamJohn
Got a reply from the stain doctor. They don't have anything suitable.

Fireman049
Hi TC John ~ IPA is what is used to clean video recorder heads. Available from chemists. I don't know if it works. Have any of your friends with video recorders got any you could try? Regards ~ Tom.
Don H.
Do you still have the specific pen that made the marks, John? If yes, perhaps make some marks on some scrap material and run experiments with various solvents. Some common solvents that (probably) won't hurt vinyl upholstery: isopropyl alcohol mineral spirits (white spirit) xylene diesel fuel Test these carefully -- there's a good chance they'll attack vinyl upholstery: toluene methyl ethyl ketone turpentine acetone
Fireman049
TC John ~ Try your luck with neat Whiskey on a cotton bud. Tom.

Charlie D
Roger, When you mentioned IPA, did you mean this stuff? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/India_pale_ale The way it’s heading, the inside of the car will end up smelling like a back street pub.
