RogerH
Hi Folks, Just to add to my woes. As per the new post on the General Forum I went to fit the new adjustable sprocket and the chain would not sit correctly in the sprocket teeth. Upon inspection three of the teeth were badly formed. For £125 one would expect ALL the teeth to be the same, correct shape. Be Warned - if you by anything with teeth inspect it carefully. I ran the chain around the sprocket to see the problem and the prove the new one was good. Roger Edited March 7, 2018 by RogerH

My fingers are still firmly crossed but Im starting to get cramps in them now. Any way more power to your sprocket.

RogerH
Hi Folks, it is all back together. After priming the oil and petrol it started on the button (ish). Run for 20 mins at 2500rpm. Whilst this was going on I proceeded to address a small water leak. Once I could reduce the rpm I was able to set the ignition timing more accurately. It sounds good. I shall take her out and give it a short drive and report back. So far so good. Roger

RogerH
Hi Folks, Success. Went for a 10 mile run. The engine was nice and smooth. The tick over was varying a bit but that is the throttle linkage (I think). The tick over was about 850rpm or so. The cam felt very similar to the OEM cam but with a little more oomph when it mattered but nor aggressive in any way. The TT1104N in comparison is significantly more aggressive in all departments. Probably excellent as a starting point for track days etc. So - very happy with the result . Will go for a good blast tomorrow. Roger
Hamish
Well done Roger You should be very chuffed to get to the bottom of the original problem and the latter parts induced issues. Congrats ????????????
silverfox4
Good to hear Roger, that is just the reaction I would like to have with the BP270 - recall from previous posts, it was a toss-up between that and the PH1 Brilliant! Cheers, Alf
RogerH
Hi folks, just had a 200 mile round trip - where we went was shut so we came home The cam behaved very well. Doing 60+ on the M4 it would accelerate easily to something significantly more than 69 quite quickly. - Nice. Between Marlborough and Devizes the whole world decided to come out and see us (in their cars) - the cam was very very controllable in stop start traffic. The suppliers should bin all their rubbish standard cams and simply sell the Newman PH-1 instead. Better quality and nice to use. Roger
graeme
Roger, So pleased that your experience with the Newman cam mirrors mine. Now, back to the TR4? Cheers Graeme
RogerH
Ah, yes. The TR4. It will emerge from its winter cocoon towards the end of April (I hope it is still there.) Roger
silverfox4
Based on that very positive driving report on the PH1, I may regret getting the BP270.........hope not. Cheers, Alf
RogerH
Hi Alf, the BP270 has a slightly lower duration 270 compared to 280 on the PH-1 but I don;t know the other dimensions. The PH-1 has 0.270 cam lift or 0.405 valve lift Fit it and find out Roger Edited March 9, 2018 by RogerH
Hamish
Well done Roger A result ????????
iain
Hi Roger So pleased to read something positive.:-) Sounds like that PH1 is what were are all looking for. Iain
silverfox4
HI Roger, BP270 now installed, just getting ready to wrap up and fire it up on the bench. Will post when we some outcome... Cheers, Alf
Bulatovic
Great news Roger! Really glad you got great result with the new cam! Did you use vernier gear or just regular steel cam/crank steel timing wheels? Cheers Luka
RogerH
Hi Luka, I used the vernier/adjustable cam sprocket but to be honest I think the standard fixed wheel would have done the trick. Roger

SuzanneH
Well done Roger, I bet Sue is pleased. Yes Robin, I’m very pleased now perhaps we can get on with our lives again. I’ve learnt a lot about cams and linkage on carburettors too. Now let’s get the TR4 trimmed properly and get out in it, or I’ll be too stiff after all the inactivity since two weeks before Christmas to be able to get in the car. I was amazed at the amount of snow still about in Wiltshire last Friday.
