threej
The car is amazingly sound, it had suffered slight damage to the rear apron & bought to be repaired. Showing vandalised instrument panel but most of it still there, no engine but ancillaries present, gearbox & the rest still fixed in place, even a complete exhaust, sidescreens, hood/tonneau, seats, stands on wheels, even has tyres with air! It was apparently bought as a project but then the engine & front apron used on another and then it just sat. Comes with original registration document showing 4 owners. Eventually it will be restored and so it will not be used to clone an import, & such suspicions should be kept to yourself not expressed here.

threej
No problem, and no offence, only wish to set a record straight & avoid any future problems from the eBay log book "police" & notifying numbers to the DVLA which could trigger something like the current witch hunt of some vintage exotics trying to prove they are what they purport to be. While the Bugatti owner might have the funds to fight it, your ordinary bloke (me!) fixing his TR might not be in that position. The situation with Triumph identities being somewhat easily changed makes for a potential situation if the DVLA started the same thing & could cause a lot of misery, especially with restored cars showing no relationship to their former condition. Not everyone photographs restorations stage by stage, & how do you prove the completed item is that same wreck when one man's project is another's opinion of scrap? MikeF
The problem of identity is not iust for TRiumphs. In the 70's had a sit up and beg E93 Popular, was good for commuting 10 miles or so on irregular shifts. What could be more mundane? You can see a picture of it on this link and scrolling down to what it is now. http://nice-reg.co.uk/number-plates/400CKJ.html Mike Edited June 30, 2016 by MikeF
Alec Pringle
There is little correlation between the situation of 'Bugatti' replicas masquerading as the real deal and rebuilt TRs. The former involve starship quantities of money and handbuilt pieces of motoring exotica, whereas the latter are cheap'n'cheerful mass production motors of comparatively modest value. If a commercial vendor offers for sale what looks, from the limited photographic illustration and written description, to be little more than a pile of mortal remains hanging together, accompanied by the offer that a 'separate period chassis can be available by alternative negotiation', then it's hardly surprising if reasonable reservations are expressed in this Forum. We've seen too many imports transformed into so-called original UK cars, quite apart from the thriving trade in stolen classics being cloaked in identities robbed from one or another scrapper. That this particular example of a dilapidated TR has passed into the ownership of an enthusiast of integrity does not invalidate the reservations expressed whilst the car was up for sale on the 'bay. There is no good reason for correspondents to delete remarks which were appropriate at the time of posting . . . . . it is all too easy to descend the slippery slope of political correctness, fearing to cause offence and inadvertently make easier the passing-off of fakes and frauds.
