TR4A1965
So, refitting everything and the new boot and front air vent seals appear to do a great job of not making everything fit flush??? Anyone got any thoughts on how to rectify this or come across it themselves? Got the boot seal from Rimmers. The vent seal was from Stef who gave it to me from his parts hoard:-) It was brand new! Many thanks Paul. PS: My car is almost ready for the trim to be dropped in then an MOT - not long now. It will have taken 2 years and 9 moths in total for a complete rebuild!!!!! Geko
HI Paul, Air vent flap seal appear too small and won't stay in place. I applied Dunlop glue liberally and then "dropped" one brick on it and let it dry overnight and pressed the side of the seal with the finger. Then removed the excess glue with Turpentine. Was this from my stock? Boot seal is apparently always a problem. I used a non original that fits very well. RogerH
Hi Paul, as Stef says the air vent seal is a fraction on the small side, so will attempt to pop off. Use an adhesive that will a little time to move the seal into positon. Shut the lid and put a stack of house bricks on top. This should get the seal intopt he right place and the weight will help squish the seal. The boot seal is a bu99er. I use a Revingotn one that has quite a soft texture. The Moss and TRF items are a little stiffer and don;t fit as well. Roger
AlanG
Woolies smaller boot seal 268a as recommended on here a while ago works very well and R10 extrusion for the vent seal allows flap to sit flush when closed. Alan.
peejay4A
Begging to differ with Roger, my TRF boot seal fits fine.
boxofbits
Hi Paul I had the same problem and ended up stripping down the boot seal to get the boot to fit. I tried various, but ended up purchasing one from Phoenix Rubber Products who specialise in Mini, Triumph etc. The lady on the phone is very helpful and will send you out sample if required, but mine fitted no problem and the only supplier I found where things actually fitted for once. I had the same problem on a Mini where it needed half the street to shut the door, but their door seal solved the issue. stuart
This the best boot seal to use, http://www.woolies-trim.co.uk/p-1928-small-boot-seal.aspx I fit them all the time, they work perfectly. Stuart.
Nigel A
Just replaced the boot seal as the old one was looking a bit tatty with the Revington clip on type and it fits perfectly. I used a new vent seal from Moss and it was the correct size for the lip, my previous one was very tight and needed stretching and plenty of glue. This time I did a lot of masking and used the woolies glue that Stuart often recommends (used it for lots of other things in the past and it is really excellent)and no mess to clean off the new paint or rubber. The vent flap is a little proud but I hope it will settle with time. Cheers Nigel
TR4A1965
Thanks all. My Vent sits proud the this the issue and there seems to be o real way to shave it down in truth. I may hit it with a brick as Stef suggests? Stef it was the one from your stock. It fits on OK but appears a little chunky?? Near to where I live I have found this amazing place. http://www.carbuildersolutions.com/uk/ If you do not have their catalogue go online and get a free one:-). You'll see quite a few items we see from places like Rimmers at considerably less cash - Door pull handles (£6.50 for a pair?), seat belt brackets (£4.50) were 2 that I immediately noticed. They had some boot trim too and I have gone for one that looks very like the seal Stuart suggests from Wollies. I'll report back. Nowhere's that brick? Best. Stuart. Thanks, Stuart! My seal has never really fitted too well (far too large); just installed some of this and it is excellent!
