pfenlon
I have a small bracket on the rear left side of the chassis that holds the gear rod linkage bracket which is dented in the centre. This needs bringing back to its original flat condition. I have tried a can of gas burning away but it needs acetylene to get some heat in the metal. It won't straighten in a cold state, the whole body justs "lifts". The area is to be sprayed on Friday does anyone local know where I can hire some bottles for an hour or so? I have tried the hire shops without success. Craig at TR Bitz said that he heard of an electrical method of heating it up, does anyone have a clue please. Motorsport Mickey
Peter, Frost Restorations sell some heat shield material for stopping your heat leaching away, page 6 of their on line catalogue "Cold Front" about £20.00. http://www.frost.co.uk/media/wysiwyg/FROST_Catalogue_64.pdf Mick Richards Edited January 5, 2016 by Motorsport Mickey
kob666e
My tuppence worth: I've no perspective of size but how about trying to push it out, plate on the bottom, strong bolt that will fit snugly inside, screw a nut fully on to bolt and then push it out by undoing the nut? BlueTR3A-5EKT
Further to Micks post I use a LaCo product called Block It. You can hold a sheet of sttel in your bare hand and heat it cherry red without burning your pinkies http://www.laco.com/heat-protection-products/bloc-it-/ I have a 'wedge head ram' in my body porta-power kit that would probably jack the thing up - Put some heat in it before you start and support he bracket and the bit you jack against. http://www.ebay.com/itm/4-Ton-Porta-Power-Hydraulic-Jack-Body-Frame-Repair-Kit-Auto-Shop-Tool-Heavy-Kit-/321760603141 Peter W
John Morrison
Rothenburger blow lamp with mapp gas, ntc put me on to this bit of kit here when I asked for a recommendation, about £55 but hiring bottles won't be cheap and you will have a great bit of kit forever. Fireman049
Hi Pete ~ I'd be inclined to remove the bracket from the chassis and then 'flatten' it from underneath. You could then re-weld it to the chassis? Just a thought ~ Tom.
Geko
My tuppence worth: I've no perspective of size but how about trying to push it out, plate on the bottom, strong bolt that will fit snugly inside, screw a nut fully on to bolt and then push it out by undoing the nut? +1: starting from the top left corner (meaning the furthest inside the bracket) were the dent is the more critical. At that point flatten the metal with a persuader, work your way outward with the bolt and repeat with the persuader. No heat required IMO. BlueTR3A-5EKT
I bought one of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Propane-oxygen-soldering-welding-gas-Torch-4-spare-nozzle-burner-/151487703004?hash=item23455ee7dc Works with propane and bottled oxygen Peter W
flinty
Hello Pete. Only just seen the topic so probably to late for pre painting but could be done afterwards without to much damage. Plug and feather would sort this out [Google it if you do not know }. It bent cold and will straighten cold. Two flat steel plates and a tapered cold chisel will suffice. Steve.
