luukkala
"Because I'm happy... Clap along if you feel like a room without a roof...Because I'm happy... " as the famous song goes in radio. I've just finished TR6 gearbox repair, taking out badly worn out laygear, counter shaft, replacing all bearings and synchro cups, and put it togerher again. Yesterday evening I took my car out for a spin and the gearbox worked like a dream. I was lucky the gearbox failure did't cause any further damage as one of the needle-like bearings at countershaft was totally broken. Anyway, getting this repair done myself is a big thing to me as my profession is not even near to car mechanics, I've have owned my TR6 now for 15 years and learned by doing. I took this project as personal challenge as I could have taken the gearbox for someone else to fix - and explaining to family why we don't do a holiday trip this year... Now I got both. TR forum is a good source of information as here there's always somebody ready to help and share knowledge. Thank you all for that! Regards, Tommi

simonjrwinter
The very nature of a forum, means that the vast majority of the posters have a problem or issue to discuss with other members, it's nice to get a "really going well" type post. Good stuff Simon
Ade_TR6
Tommi, Top job, toying with having a go myself. I posted the other week and got some good advice. How did you find the job from a 'novices' point of view? I have done some considerable background reading with some excellent material found on line as well as the technicalities CD rom and there doesn't appear to be anything that mysterious about the job... rogerguzzi
It is nice to see someone doing there own repairs again as we all use to and in my case still do! This is not criticism of anyone on this forum and if you want to upgrade the units perhaps use a specialist if not repair it as laid out in all the Triumph manuals as all the ordinary mechanics used to do. Trust me it it is not that hard if you take your time and ask for advise if not sure. And as Luukkala has found out it is so rewarding and cheaper. Roger ps are not high tech things that are not meant to be repaired by average people!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
