saggy
Hello, Haven't been posting for a while but check in regularly. Sometimes I push on and other times I sink into my lowest energy state. For the latter, my elbow is looking for something to rest on. Has anyone got any recommendations for a centre arm rest/console from some other vehicle that fits a 4A a treat please? Thanks Edited November 10, 2011 by saggy
RogerH
Hi Saggy, the problem with the 4A is the centre handbrake. Any useful sized arm rest would make using the handbrake awkward. I'm sure there is something out there that would fit but it will not be perfect. I made one last year and ended up ditiching it. Roger
Alec Pringle
Panzer lorry has a centre console with sliding arm rest - as in it slides forward for driving with rested elbow, as it were, and in the action of pulling on handbrake your wrist nudges it backwards. Probably standard on BMW 5-series E39s, and no doubt other Beemers - it might lend itself to suitable cannibalising and modding to fit ? Cheers, Alec
pfenlon
I made one for my 250 a while ago, but it wasnt quite right the armrest came from a merc and I cut it down, but its a challenge and you can understand why ST didnt make one.
BrianC
The reason S-T didn't provide an armrest is because it's a sportscar and they really couldn't imagine anyone wanting or needing one. Words fail me.

saggy
Thank you for replies - I think you have made a good job of yours Pete, well done. It helps to give me an idea of what might be the right height, length, width etc. I appreciate the problem with the handbrake but I can recall seeing a very good one back along but didn't take enough notice at the time. I also had an excellent one with lifting lid/cubby box, oddment tray, flip lid ashtray and gear lever surround on an MGB.... I kinda miss that console so although I've graduated up to TR now it's something that I miss and would be very happy if I could find one. When you say Panzer I guess that's euphemism for Mercedes? Thanks, Saggy
TR 2100
AMCO did a series of these, one for the TR4 and one for the TR4A/5/6. The latter could also be bought with an extension that fitted up to and around the gear lever. All were made in moulded plastic. PM me with your email address and I'll send a few more photos of the variations (all taken from eBay - not high definition) They come up on eBay now and again, but don't bother looking. They fetch silly money. Very silly. AlanR Edited November 11, 2011 by TR 2100
AlfredHitchcock
There are lots of universal armrests listed on ebay. Some look pretty good ;-). The dimensions are given so you might find something to fit.
Alec Pringle
Hi Saggy, Panzer Lorry is a BMW 530D Tourer, E39, 1999 vintage. Back in the 70s Krautwagens were categorised by Dagenham Dustbin equivalent, as in VW = Nazi Escort, BMW = Nazi Cortina, Mercedes = Nazi Granada etc. Terribly un-PC of course, but we didn't worry about such things then - some of us still don't. In Deutschland it was effectively forbidden to make Nazi jokes, so my German chums used to revel in the UK team coming out with such cracks, we could get away with what they couldn't. It's called freedom of speech . . . . Hi Brian, S-T probably never envisaged an M25 crawl on a bad day, which is when an arm rest comes in handy . . . . EdwinTiben
Hi Saggy, I dropped your question into the google oracle: it came up with http://triumphconsoles.com/ perhaps you can use this as inspiration or call them for a quote ?
