Steves_TR6
SO, just seen the new Minilite 16" wheels advertised, initially in 7" but other widths coming. I'm thinking they would look great on a TR6, AND open up some bigger brake options :-) Has anyone put 16" wheels on a TR6, and if so in what width?? Got any Photos?? ( I am thinking 7" will be too wide and will foul the bodywork/suspension?) Also what brakes are you running under your 16, or bigger !, wheels ?? Regards Steve
jerrytr5
Steve, there are a few TR's running around on 16's but what you then need to consider is the tyre profile which you would need to run. The TR is not designed to run 50 series tyres and unless you have billiard table roads where you live you might not have improved grip or handling when you drop below a 65 profile. IMHO the TR needs a bit of compliance in the sidewall on a road car. I think I've seen pictures of some our American friends cars running 16 inch and they look great - wouldn't last 10 mins on the pot-holed roads of Buckinghamshire though. Regards Steve I regularly see TR6's with 16x7 Panasports using 205/55x16 tires. I think Rick Patton has this combination on his blown TR6 and it looks great, nice proportions. I'm sure I have pictures if you want to see how that looks, Stan
Steves_TR6
Thanks for the replies guys ! This is a purely theoretical exercise presently, but watch this space

( I've just found the thread with pics and they do look great) If i stick with 15" do I want 6 or 5.5 width, to go with 195/65 tyres ?? Having a bit of a search I see that Minator wheels are quite commonly fitted, and are considerable cheaper than Minilite, are they OK quality wise ?? Thanks again. Steves_TR6
Those Konigs look good on your car! What width are they, were there any issues with clearance?? Shame about the Minators, as there are some available very reasonably priced ! Any other thoughts guys ? Steve

Steve Steve Here's some pics of a TR6 (not mine) with Konigs 16x7 using Yokohamas 215x 65R x 16, I'm told. Not sure they are my taste but personal choice is all yours or mine accordingly!! Silver or silver/Grey finish available- will send some close ups of the alloys if I can. (sound like a salesman - which I'm not!!) robnob
Here's a sample if it helps you make an "informed decision" on your new wheels!! Personally I'm happy with my original steel wheels but they do look good nonetheless! Hope you bag a nice car soon in time for the Spring. Cheers Rob
Steves_TR6
Hmmm I like the style but maybe they're a tad too chunky for my taste. Are they 16 or 15, you used both above Rob! Edited January 19, 2011 by SDerbyshire

jellison
You can get huge brakes under 15's but not so easy if just off the shelf. Std are fine with fast road / race pads unless racing or tracking alot. I'd stay with 15's and not go below 60 profile. Comp ML's are great, for a fast road 6 I'd go 6J (call them for offset). 7J is too big unless you must have a 205 and even then these are fine on a 6J (195 ideal for the road on a 6J). 7j will be an issue getting under standard archs (not sticking out). Steves_TR6
Thanks Guys I think i will investigate the new Minilite 16*7 wheels, although they may be too expensive for me. Steve
Alec Pringle
Bear in mind that purchase cost of the wheels is only half the equation . . . . It is all too easy to overlook the ongoing increased maintenance cost factor that may result from using the larger wheels and lower profile tyres to their full potential. As in, feeding loads into the chassis, drivetrain, suspension and steering which are way above the original design parameters. OK, not too much of a worry if the car is for show rather than go, but a consideration if you're planning to cover lots of miles. Cheers, Alec

He usually does a tremendous amount of research before deciding on a project. Saves 'us' a lot of work.
