  1. Hi HP, there's a great thread on tyres here and here and here that I hope will help you out. As a newer owner I'm very grateful for help all the time from longer term owners...
  2. I've been kinda looking for one for a while given Haynes quit the printing business for car manuals in lockdown, onwards. Got mine in the post today, so if you're looking for one, there's 7 brand new in-cellophane ones at: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/394118642829 This gives my library a boost as my car came with a copy of the original Triumph Brown Book...so I can compare
  3. Nice area mate! Good luck Tuesday, after having been seated next to a very noisy/shouty table of 15+ today we’ll keep driving past Chequers from today onwards. You should try the Seven Bells at Marsh Crendon. Fabulous location & very much car loving owners.
  4. Hey Roger, not sure where you’re based (we’re in Marlow area)but have to say the Bull & Butcher is far better value and quieter than The Chequers which is why we love the B&B. Avoid The Frog at Skirmitt which is way overrated with rude landlords. We continued onwards to Ashendon & Pisnnor and there forests full of bluebells everywhere. But beware the single track lanes which are full of debris on the centre of the road !
  5. The engine/transmission was out last week for a clutch replacement (new plate, CRB, slave cylinder, pins) so I finally had time to insulate. What a huge difference it makes - had to turn in the heater today to keep my wife’s feet, legs warm Heres a couple pictures. Note different material as lining both sides of transmission tunnel consumed what I bought from eBay so blagged some from a friend. if you’ve not done it, absolutely recommend it and can’t wait for summer to come.
  6. We went to Fingest, Oxon/Bucks borders to a pub where Midsomers Murders were filmed.
  7. A couple of questions for the OP, as we took our Caterham to Oz when we had a 4yr secondment then brought it back to the UK: Was it ever registered in UK and if so is there a UK reg? Asking as if the person who exported it, may have done a V52 (export) certificate. When it went to Oz it had (unless in 60s/early 70s) had to comply with ADRs (Aussie Design Rules) of roadworthiness which means it should display a badge on the firewall. Presuming it was on UK plates when exported to Oz, was the plate put on retention/the car SORN'd here? Has it had all years of Oz MoT's (s
  8. I would've loved to have my hands on the spray nozzle of that yesterday with all the Mamals (lycra louts) clogging up the local roads. Went out for a leisurely blat and ended up behind them everywhere I turned, mostly riding 4-6 across completely blocking the lanes anywhere you could risk overtaking them. The only fitting justice per se was they got stuck behind me at a crossing of Thames where's a single lane bridge so they got to breathe in the loverly smell of my car's exhaust.
  9. The only motors I've ever seen the justification for use in is Ally blocks, like Rover K-series engines. There you don't want water to contact ally I'm told as there is a reaction over time hence Caterham/Lotus owners use a waterless coolant which name I cannot recall.

  11. I guess for some the aforementioned device might have some redeeming value but for me its Silicon Snake Oil (credit: Clifford Stoll) as as proper trickle charger has an indicator. I for one like going into the garage just to look at the display on mine
  12. Thanks Harry for the suggestion, will be investigating when the engine/trans is out in a couple weeks.
  13. (I think I know the answer, but want to check before the engine comes out in a couple weeks to replace clutch + gubbins) Above 60Mph-ish the speedo needle which has sat solid on a speed starts wobbling/flickering not staying on the speed. Around 70Mph it flickers a lot. Am i thinking correctly as this is what I used to have in my Caterham which had a similar system and would need to replace. I think it's either the speedo cable or pin that connects the angle drive. TIA
  14. Given quite good tyres were recommended in another thread here are available for £140-160, why would you spend £239.28/tyre for the XAS? Are they really that good?
  15. if the car was sold to permanently go abroad, a V52 should've been done at the time. now, if that owner at the time did SORN, you might have something to argue the toss about. if not, i've got a strong feeling you're screwed with 20%.
