Both MS and Google no longer support W7.  I think W7 is very good.

Yes, it works fine for my purposes, even without updates. Norton works well with it.

I must say that there seems to be quite a bit of support for Norton.

On the advice of our IT guru. I stopped using Norton in 2010

It takes up a huge amount of space relative to its performance so I took James' advice

I use Windows defender and Malwarebytes, with occasional C Cleaner scans

Nary a problem since and a fortune saved by not paying Norton

I use Win 7, Win XP and, on a laptop, Linux Mint.

(I even use  Win 98 to run my CNC machine.)

Linux is well worth looking into if you just want to to use the computer for everyday things like writing letters and browsing the internet.

It's faster and easier to use than Microsoft.

And...

It's 100% free, including the "Open Office" suite of programs that is roughly the same as "Microsoft office".

Charlie.
