Dady
Maybe a silly question but…when my car was sold to me it was described as being Midnight Blue. I was new to the mark and had not done a great deal of homework. I bought it from a well known classic car dealer (not a TR specialist). My curiosity has been raised as many TR members have corrected me when I’ve described the colour, telling me that Midnight Blue is not a Triumph colour and in fact the colour, I’m told is Royal Blue. So which is it? Midnight or Royal? it doesn’t bother me either way as I love the colour but it would be nice to know. Can anyone help? For information, I have the Heritage certificate - it was white when built! David
Harbottle
Looks like Triumph code56 Royal Blue.
stuart
Always difficult to tell from pictures but Royal Blue is likely, there are actually two shades of it originally one being code 56 and the other having no code plus theres my shade of it on several cars these days courtesy of Ken and Lyn paints. RogerH
Hi David, almost certainly Royal Blue. I believe it was created in 1964 and named on behalf of Prince Charles when he bought a TR4 in 1964. I could be wrong but I will try anything for a knighthood. Roger
brenda
Hi David, I also think you TR is Royal Blue as you can see a difference when we’re parked on the Redrose stands, I know mine is Colour 56 as I’ve had the rear wing replaced and sprayed. Are they 72 spoke, standard ie. not centre laced, and what size tyres? I'm currently looking to refit my 4A and yours look nicely proportioned. Thanks, John
Dady
Hi John, yes they are 72 spoke. Made by MWS. Tyres are Toyo 195/65R/15. Thanks for the compliments David On 1/18/2024 at 5:09 PM, twostrokekid said: Love the car! Question about the wheels and tyres (which look great). Bleednipple
By today's norms that wouldn't be described as royal blue, which is typically these days a more vivid tone that gets closer to what used to be called French blue. But Triumph called it royal blue so whatevs. A very dark blue usually, in my opinion, looks best on a larger car. However it does manage to look splendid on a TR, espcially with the extra bit of bling that your 4A's body strips and the chromed wires offer. A lovely car!
