John Morrison
Hi guys, The Memsaab, (SWMBO) has decreed that our bathroom 'Needs' a refurb, personally I can't see this but .............. well you know how it is. This work involves me removing several miles (Slight exaggeration) of old mastic/sealant. I've seen advertisements for various sprays etc., that are supposed to soften/dissolve such stuff, can anyone recommend a brand, or do I buy a packet of razor blades,- for the mastic you understand not my wrists? John.
MilesA
Just done this job on a bath and shower at my daughters' house, John. Not aware of effective solvents. I found that the most effective tools were a window scraper with a couple of new traditional Stanley blades and a couple of smaller, plastic Stanley knives with retractable, snap off blades. The later was used with the blade extended to cut out mastic below tiles but above the bath / shower edge. Safety glasses are essential! Remained a tedious job though. I did subsequently see a plastic 'V' shaped device for gouging the stuff out but no idea how effective it is. I imagine one would still need to clean up afterwards with blades. Enjoy... stu50uk
I've used this before renewing the sealant around my shower. It did an all right job of removing most of it. I still had to use a scrapper for the stubborn bits. 2 x Bond It Easy To Use 125ml Silicone Sealant Remover Non Drip Eater Tool Removal https://amzn.eu/d/8okySCr

PaulAnderson
It’s a job I’ve got to do myself John. I spotted this a little while ago and also noted other similar videos on YouTube recommending products. Paul
