Z320
For balancing wire wheels you need adapters to fix the wheel the way it is fixed on the car. —-> center nut holds the rim „outside“, common adapters inside And you need a tire shop these days who knows and understands. My first tires have been balanced wrong apart from I gave the guy the needed adapters. But he did not use them because he thought I‘m an idiot and he knows better. Currently I finished a set Ciao, Marco
Andy Moltu
I had the same experience but the lad at the tyre fitters attitude changed when I asked how many sets if wires he had balanced and pointed out the only way he would receive payment was if he used my cones. The MG folk sell sets of cones for about £85 new on EBay or less second hand.
Drewmotty
I use a splined adaptor and a spinner with a hole bored through it to suit the balancing machine.

Thanks, I found the set on eBay, but it is for 42 mm shafts, here at Germany we have 40 mm shafts
michaelfinnis
MWS in Langley recommended for balancing wires in my experience if you’re in that part of the world.

Arguably the best refresh ever done in a car, particularly given the non existent budget. Yep completely with you on that one. Wires suit the styling of 4/5 much better, with the headlight treatment, boot and chrome indicator repeaters. But with the more straight-lined blocky look of the 6 its steels for me. Though a set of colour coded minilites would look great. Not sure whether to go Sapphire Blue or metalic grey centres, with silver or even diamond cut rims of course. Andy Moltu
There are 2 considerations. Function : Worcester are more complicated needing adaptors and spinners along with being less robust and strong compared to alloys. And harder to clean. Appearance. Purely a personal choice. For me the 6s don't suite wires or for that matter Surrey tops. Unlike the 2-5s.
Chilp3
Here are a couple of pictures of my TR6 with wires fitted. The wheels were supplied by MWS.

In my opinion, that's how wires should look, standard width and painted, and it looks awesome. Gareth
TR Paul
Morning, chaps. This talk of MWS in Langley reminds of my friend David who owns a v.nice AH3000, mk3 (on wires).A few years ago, He was having trouble with wheel vibration, & mentioned this to a (well known) Healey specialist, who were doing some other work to the car at that time. They had a look at the wheels (which are proper Dunlop wires), & told him that they were past their best. They recommended new wheels, which they of course could sell him.... for quite a steep price. David lives near Windsor, and not too far from MWS, so he took the car there, to get a 'second opinion'. MWS gave the wheels a good clean-up, checked the spokes & rims, and balanced the wheels. All at a price considerably less than the Healey specialist was asking for; not bad when you consider that MWS make wire wheels, & could've easily made a 'quick buck' out of David (who by his own admission has a limited mechanical knowledge). Based on my friends' experiences with MWS, I'd certainly be talking to them if I had issues with wire wheels. Cheers, Paul. P.S. I don't have wires -TR6 steels in autumn/winter,, Cobra Supaslot alloys in Spring/Summer. P.P.S. I have no links to MWS!
