Now all you need to do is match the new hole in the hardboard with the hole in the bulkhead end panel.

One of these is what I use, but others say make your own.

The problem I’ve often found trying to use existing holes with self tappers is that unless you use the right sized screws (As in the same size that came out), or slightly bigger, there is a possibility that the screw will just turn in the hole and not grip, especially if the hole has enlarged a bit when it was originally tightened up or removed.

I’ve always drilled new holes exactly the right size for the specific self tapper you have used.

Also it’s best not to drill through the carpet but use a punch. Drilling can (and often does, in my case) cause threads to be picked up on the drill end and pull a line out of the carpet.

I also prefer this type of cupwasher (personal choice.)

Charlie.
