Has anyone else had a problem with new water pumps? I fitted a new one in the spring ready for this summer and its scrap now the bearings are worn and it’s sprayed water over the engine bay and under the bonnet. Is there a dodgy batch.

I got my original one rebuilt to better than new by EP Services. Not at all expensive and fit and forget. No need to grease as the bearing is sealed for life.

Had a good chat with Paul there (recommended by Rich !) and he explained how the 4 blade impeller was the right one for the job as it reduces the risk of cavitation and moves the water more efficiently.

If you have still got your original one, I would have that rebuilt here in the UK. In my experience the new Repro ones are suspect as they have been for years! There are companies in the Midlands that rebuild water pumps. Sorry at present I cannot find their details.

Before I bought my TR5 in August 2019, the owner agreed to replace the water pump as it was making a strange noise. A modern replacement pump was fitted by a TR specialist in Nottingham. I asked him to keep the original water pump for me, which was a period piece complete with a cast and machined pulley. As a spare I had this reconditioned by EP services and they were a pleasure to deal with. As the bearings are now sealed for life I fitted a blanking plug.
