pfenlon
you can see the gap in the pics, it isn't corrosion, looks like it was filed or ground down, but I cannot think of a reason why, Can you?
Tony_C
Hi Pete, if really not corrosion then…… answer none of us really want to hear…….. lack of quality control back in the day? Doubtless you will sort it… and some ‘experts’ will be along shortly……..
RogerH
Hi Pete, could it have been rubbing on the radiator. I can't see QC on the production line being the issue. Roger

Tony_C
Good point well made, as always Roger but that should be easy to discount (or not) Pete…. Any sign of wear and or, corresponding damage to the rad?…. Sure this would be noticeable before the bonnet..
pfenlon
Bought the bonnet recently, wasn't part of the TR I'm restoring, so can't check rad etc. I have a rad without a "Neck" so hoping it will clear with a small plate welded over it?

I wouldnt weld a plate over it, your going to need to let one in flush if it cant be welded easily along the split, reason being there is little enough clearance as is to the rad and you dont want to make it worse. John Morrison
I'd put a stip of angle behind it and Mig up and then dress back - be invisible. then. John.
Motorsport Mickey
Because the gap looks a little large (2 mm ?) at worst points, I think John’s suggestion is sensible and will be an “invisible” repair as suggested. Mick Richards
pfenlon
Thanks for the advice Lads, will go behind as suggested.
stillp
Looks to me as if someone was sanding the paint off the rear edge of the stiffener, and got a bit over-enthusiastic with the angle grinder. Pete
Lebro
That was my thought also. Bob.
