Z320
Sorry that question, how does it work to refit an air condition in the TR? My wife asked me. Didn't the US do that? Ciao, Marco
stuart
Not seen that in a 4 but they did fit it to the 6. It would probably pull too much power from a 4. Back in the early 70`s I was staying with my cousin in Athens and she had a 200 Merc with it and it would nearly stall it running at tickover. There is this company who retro fit. http://www.alpinair.co.uk/classic-vintage-cars/ Stuart.

Ciao, Marco Hi Marco, don’t we all have 2 bosses in life (besides the happy few that are self-employed). Think I saw a set on offer recently on e-bay. I would try to convince her that proper thermal insulation can achieve the same temperature sink, which may be very true. Cheers, Waldi
Z320
Hi Stuart, thank you for that! This inside unit would make it very easy. I will have to look if it fits instead the clove box. The compressor and condenser from a Renault Clio II again, some bits and pieces, electric fan - there it is...? One more project in line. Hi Waldi, I reported my wife about Stuart's post and she told me she will write me a list of more urgend things - in her eyes.... She is so worried about me to do the right thing..... Ciao, Marco Edited June 28, 2019 by Z320
stuart
Parts from small moderns will fit better as they have condensed the size of these installations down so much from the original very clumsy units.. You would need to uprate the alternator too as your going to need several fans to keep everything cool with the additional aircon rad in the front of your ordinary rad. Stuart. ctc77965o
The AC specialists say its best to have a small compressor working hard rather than a large compressor idling. This is especially true for Stuart's point: the cycling on/off of the compressor clutch can really drag the revs down...back in the day there were two fixes: a little solenoid that cracked open the throttle or bled some extra air or the Rolls Royce approach of ensuring the compressor was on all the time and the engine idle setup accordingly. So in short, find a small compressor....even a sanden SD5 is too much for a stable idle on a 4 cyl 2 litre....and a larger SD7 will cycle revs 500-1500...
Lebro
Modern compressors run all the time, but have "variable displacement" ie the amount of gas they compress is adjusted by altering the stroke of the internal pistons from max down to zero. Bob.
Andy Moltu
Could have done with AC in the Stag on Saturday. Not the day to be stuck in a jam on the M25! Peeled off onto the minor roads and saw a nice 3A somewhere in Surrey (ish)
Z320
found this offer for TR6
JochemsTR
I very well know, you will not be spending that kind of money for those fews days of hot TR driving weather....there are other projects that are way more interesting and worth the money.... :-) Jochem
