john.r.davies
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/252757903045?ul_noapp=true Was fitted to a Spitfire, but suffered an underbonnet fire. Looks tasty, triple Strombergs and an SAH rocker cover, but the fire was so bad the tyres were consumed. And he wants £150, just for the engine! DaveR
Used to be owned by a TSSC member in the Surrey Area. Was a smart car, Last saw it at Stafford International in 2010. Dave

john.r.davies
Yup! Go to the link in my OP! I've heard of alloy rocker covers going for silly prices, but this is ridiculous. All the plastic or rubber from the engine ancillaries is burnt away, the front carb appears to have melted (!) The inside of the engine????? JOhn Edited February 8, 2017 by john.r.davies
Alec Pringle
Bin Job. Cheers Alec
TR 2100
Bin Job. Cheers Alec Huge money can go into the building of a race engine. Surely a lot of the internal components would be undamaged. Even the SAH cover looks well good enough to clean up. "Bin job" seems a bit excessive, even if the price is, although I would want to check the exact "race build" specification. AlanR
john.r.davies
Melting point aluminium 660C, so at least that in the engine bay. Normally, the outside of the exhaust manifold a bit lower than that, the rest much lower. I'd say it all depends! How hot did the block get, and for how long, and the only way to tell is a strip it down. Might do for a road engine, but I'd not use it to race. Alec Pringle
" Huge money can go into the building of a race engine. " Yes, that's my point precisely. Are you really going to risk that much investment by reutilising internal components from an engine that has been well and truly roasted externally ? OK, you might risk them on a road engine, if it's only a low budget rebuild. But very expensive competition innards that have been possibly roasted are, realistically, worth no more than equivalent low budget road parts. Cheers Alec
Guest ntc
I would drop the sump to see what's in it,and inspect from there.

stephen cooper
If I remember rightly, this car was in an rolling road shoot out years ago and made about 110bhp so I wouldn't get too excited about it..
jellison
No description of what is in the engine, so could easily be just a mildly warmed over fast road engine! RACE can mean anything! It's not going to be a 15-20k race lump, which is what full house one would cost.
Nick Jones
That's been for sale for knocking on 2 years now....... The seller apparently can't read the writing on the wall Nick
