JJC
Having just had a third unit fail in as many years where is the recommended place to buy ones that don't fail? JJC
Alec Pringle
Durite units I have mentioned in the past . . . . . http://www.tr-register.co.uk/forums/index.php?/topic/33976-upgrade-electronic-flasher-units-by-mail-order/?hl=durite Cheers Alec
RogerH
Hi JJC, .........or http://www.vehicle-wiring-products.eu/product.php/626/12-volt-4-pin-electronic-flasher-relay This works very well on the 4A - separate earth wire and socket - not sure about the earlier cars though. JJC
Thanks chaps. As a matter of interest is there a way of easily testing the suspect unit? Looks as though the people Alec recommends do a screw terminal version which is what I need. JJC

Lebro
Hi JJC, .........or http://www.vehicle-wiring-products.eu/product.php/626/12-volt-4-pin-electronic-flasher-relay This works very well on the 4A - separate earth wire and socket - not sure about the earlier cars though. Roger I have a modern type (like this) in my '3 works fine, & with a bit of wiring electrickery you can have hazard warning function as well. Bob.
JJC
So I bought 0-606-00 as advised but it's negative earth. Hopefully the mounting tag is isolated and I can just do the obvious swap of terminals. Unless anyone knows different? JJC
Lebro
Not sure about the warning light connections - you may have to isolate the earthy end, & connect it to +12V instead. Alternatively, why not convert car to be -ve earth. Bob.
JJC
Thinking about it I'm not sure it will work. Because the lights are all earth return so will always be positive won't they? I think it's £15 wasted. And I still don't have a working flasher unit.JJC
RogerH
The unit in my post is not polarity sensitive. In a plastic case and quite cheap. Roger
JJC
The unit in my post is not polarity sensitive. In a plastic case and quite cheap. Roger RogerThanks - I'll get one of those. On the bright side though whilst grumpily kicking boxes in the garage loft I found a box labelled original flasher unit still working! Just needs a fixing plate that's all. So I might be on the road tomorrow after all.JJC
Lebro
The unit in my post is not polarity sensitive. Roger Are you sure about it not being polarity sensitive ? Bob
JJC
I plan to ring them Monday to find out. Meanwhile! Bob, I think you're right about connecting the other side of the warning light to -ve but even then it may not work because the +ve rail will be switching because that's connected to the bulbs. JJC
Lebro
You could forget the third terminal on the unit, & simply wire your warning lamp across the two sides (left & right pairs of bulbs) That is how the later cars are wired anyway. If say you are indicating left, then you have intermittant 12V on the left pair of bulbs, & 0V on the right pair. The warning lamp finds it's earth through the unused pair of bulbs. Bob. P.S. Personally I would switch to -ve earth, fit an alternator, narrow fan belt etc & be done with it
Fireman049
Hi JJC ~ Take Bob's advice and switch to -ve earth etc. etc. I did this with my 3A for the better. Tom.
Don Elliott
When my flasher unit stopped working, I continued to drive my TR3A. But at each turn, I would click the flasher lever on the control head "on and off" - "on and off", etc. From outside it looked like the flasher unit was in perfect order and the turn signals were flashing correctly. JJC
Little things give great joy. The old original Lucas unit out of the loft works just fine. Fixing tab is broken so it's held on with a cable tie. a lucky find. JJC
RobH
... and a bit cheaper than wearing out the control head - Eh Don ?
Don Elliott
Mine has lever on the control head has lasted me more than 57 years so far. I'll let you know in another 57 years how it's working. Cheers Don
