Ramps, which ones work well for the TR6?

Recommended Posts

Hi Folks

After my 'Quick Dash Refurb' project I need to turn my attention to the underside of the car.... nothing drastic but i want to change all the oils, replace the rear diff mounts( and possible the pinion seal) etc etc !

Reading the various 'car lifting' threads on here I dream of a 4/2 post lift ( in a nice heated garage!) but have neither the space nor the budget, the scissor type lifts look interesting too.

However for my needs I've settled on reversing the rear of the TR onto ramps, then lifting the front onto stands to give a decent working height.

My Question, which ramps to buy ?!

MachineMart etc sell various ramps which look OK, but i'd like a solid recommendation of a pair that are robust enough to do the job, wide enough for 195s, and have a suitable ramp angle for the TR.

Thanks in advance !

Steve

All depends on your budget!

My mate with a TR4 bought some of these and says it was the best thing he did as he doesnt have space for a 4/2 poster!

In fact the blue TR4 in the video,"CFU" is his at home!

You could always buy the manual version to save a few quid!

A couple of 'helpful' suggestions!

I like the look of the hydraulic ones!, but am thinking more £50 than £500!

I nearly bought a older manual set I saw at a resto show last year for £50,but I was all spent up!

They are out there and do turn up on E-bay!

I got a set from Machine Mart - with low clearance adapters. Not expensive & do the job.

Thanks Steve, that would be my default option if nothing better, and cheap!, turns up :-)

Hi Steve

I use the same as Steve above, the adapters do make easier to get up the ramp.

CJ Autos are selling them at £250 a set new and may do a deal at Stoneleigh!

So s/h and a few years old are worth £?!!!!

Just make an offer you feel is fair and see what happens!

Thanks for the suggestion Pilkie.

Mick and I discussed his ramps, they would suit but I'm a bit broke this month what with the Oil disaster!

Don't really need ramps right now, will see what's on offer at stonleigh :-)
