Andrew Smith
An old inter-services joke Neil....................not aimed at any particular event past or present, especially the crashing of two Tornados today resulting two missing crew. Alec Pringle
" you will need a/ holes in floor b/ bucket " I'd already suggested the holes in the floor Neil, and I'm sure NedFrog must have a spare bucket or two about his person ? At least that way it's not necessary to stand out in the rain for a Jack Dash - and if one misses the bucket, the floor drain holes will cope with the overspill, flushed by the Welsh wetter . . . . Cheers, Alec PS - take paddles and a liferaft on the luggage rack, Pink !
marbilou
I have been said that Aeroscreen require "safety glasses" That why goggles or something equivalent are mandatory to avoid serious eye injuries Otherwise good luck I will take the "route Napoleon" saturday to join South France -900 km Guess what - my tr3 57 has the original Triumph aeroscreen The weather forecast is showing a good trend! john.r.davies
Pink, From experience on the CT 10CR, in a roofless, windscreenless car: NO carpets, take out the floor plugs, let the water drain away. Full motorcyle suits - the rain WILL get up your back with trousers and a jacket. Kirkey aluminium seats, no upholstery - remarkably comfortable! And what will you do to protect your face? Wil the aeroscreens be enough? A bee between the teeth is an unhappy experience. A full face helmet is a bit modern. How about a Mike Hawthorne style, full visor, and a scarf across the chin, mouth - and neck! Bow tie optional! http://www.bikersparadise.co.uk/scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=
pinky
Hi John i have got a motorbike helmet like that as i have triumph and an old Greeves i have thought about wearing a helmet but have decided against it we have bought some gortex coats that has a hood connected with lots of tie strings these make the hood fit tight it also has a peak i have some really good quality goggles and a leather flying helmet i have also bought ear muffs these are realy good they stop the wind getting in your ears pink
john.r.davies
Ear muffs! Good point! After the 10CR I had tinnitus for a week. The noise in a helmet going through open air is much louder than you would think, over 100dBls, due to air turbulence around your neck, which is one reason why bikers wear a thick scarf there. When I mentioned my tinnitus (ringing in the ears) to my codriver, who is an hearing specialist, he said, of course you have! He's done research on this and found that most regular bikers are deaf by the time they are 50! The b*gg*r might have told me beforehand! Yes, ear protection, plugs would be good. SuzanneH
My hearing specialist(Joe Marai) (spelling ??) told me tinnitus is caused by cells in my brain dying off and the dead cells emit the noise I hear! I do agree that long journeys and long holidays spent in the TR make my tinnitus louder and much more noticeable and my hearing gets worse until we return home. My leather lined fine leather flying helmet helps with the buffeting however I don't wear it in the summer, I suppose I should! john.r.davies
Suzanne, If you find that your tinnitus is worsened by long journeys, take it seriously. Each time worsens your hearing. If I was doing top-down driving, I would use ear plugs, helmet or not. There is an enormous range from cheap disposable foam plastic jobs to custom made, for prices that match. These might do: http://www.earplugshop.com/motorcycling-earplugs/proguard-mould-your-own.html or find an audiologist - Oh! You have one! John
Menno van Rij
I always wear ear plugs when I'm taking the TR for a spin. Perhaps not really 'open top motoring as it should be'. My first job as a young teacher was teaching on a school for deaf children. I've picked up a few good advices during that time. Hence the plugs. Menno
Quicksilver
when we drive long distance or high way we use ear plugs always. we have custumbuild ear plugs so its fits comfortable. it reduce the air noise but you can hear your co-pilot. marcel.
SuzanneH
Thanks John I will get some ear plugs. I fear it is too late for my right ear but I will try to preserve the hearing in my left ear. Luckily I have had the natural ability to lip read from a very young age and passed a lip reading course at the hospital easily. Others take heed! Sue
john.r.davies
Gosh! Is there something about the Nederlands that makes them take it seriously too? John
