Most oil pipes I have had dealings with have crimped on end fittings.

Your local agricultural supplies outlet may have the kit for making custom hydraulic pipes, I know there is one near me which I have used for repairing / replacing hoses on farm machinery.

Marco is right Hamish. Many years ago I had a very similar thing on an oil-cooler setup where the pipe joint was more or less parallel . Despite the clips being good and tight, a hose did come off after some use - possibly after the rubber had softened a bit.   

Having seen your photo of the heat exchanger on Sideways, it is clear it is not designed for a plain push-on pipe. That collar on the pipe looks to be under the jubilee clip so the gripping area is very small .  If it manages to move so the clip slides up a bit, it will give way suddenly.

Could you flare the end of the pipe and fit a second clip? That would at least prevent the hose moving.

i have done it as per your first drawing. 
and hose is clamped on this ridge.

Oetiker clip.   Plus.  You will need the pincers to clinch them

See data sheet for band width.  There could be a narrow one to suit.

 I was wondering about a wire clip as you could put one wire either side of the collar?   Still a good idea to use another clip higher up too though.

great minds think alike Rob as i did think that it could be an option

 

this lead on to these methods and youtubers that had made their own tools

Hi Guys

i have tried to take your advice with regards to clamping the oil hoses. I tried to get the original plastic clips. But not that easy without buying another unit with them included or the hose set.

so I looked for beading tool and there are some great ones out there but far away ( usa) and/or expensive.

but i came to my ability options 

very low tech as you will have come to expect of me. 
 

Thinking along robs idea I have adapted a mikalor clip so that there is a band either side of the pipe bead/ridge.

it seems very secure and I have made the water connections and it all seems to work. 
oil temps come up far quicker 

only tested in the garage at a constant 2000rpm

so a road test is needed.

I would have called the clip a "Jubilee Clip" rather than Mikalor, which (I think) look like this:

I can report that I have just had a couple of hours spirited road test in the Derbyshire hills.

the temps are all good.

oil now typically 80c and coolant is 85 to 93c only rising to 97c (were the elec fan kicks in) when I need to wait at junction or lights  ie not moving.

the oil pressure has altered a little only when oil warm now.

above 1500/2000rpm it 50psi (was 70).

above 3.5/4K rpm it’s 70psi.

hot tick over  it’s about 35/40 psi ( was 50)

I attribute these hot drops to warmer oil thus not as thick.

oil temps come up to working temps faster .

and the pipes stayed on - bonus-

so all in all as an experiment I’m happy .
