AarhusTr6
hi Previous guy used some horrible glue on the inner door to keep the vinyl covered panels on door and presume not to use clips. I got a nice new set of vinyl panels and unfortunately I can see the dried glue applied many moons ago. Lord knows what he used, but its tan coloured and white spirit and petrol seems to have little effect. Any one done anything similar, ie getting glue off? Thanks rich
RobH
If its tan coloured its probably Evostik. There is a specific solvent for it based a more aggressive solvent (Toluene ) but some people have found that heating the glue allows it to be scraped off. Either way the paint might suffer. https://www.zoro.co.uk/shop/lubricants-and-chemicals/cleaners-and-degreasers/no-3-cleaner---5-litre/p/ZT1037294X?utm_campaign=pla-Lubricants+%26+Chemicals+-+&utm_source=google&utm_medium=shopping-pla&utm_keyword=ZT1037294X&istCompanyId=6aa6787b-063e-4414-802d-129f235df603&istItemId=wtqirrixqx&istBid=tztx&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI5KSzwOK-2QIVy7ftCh224wgREAUYBCABEgLvrPD_BwE I have also seen reports of freezing it with a freezer spray which allows it to be peeled off. RogerH
Hi Rich, as per Rob's comments. I have found that normal paint thinner can work. However you need to test it on the paint, under the panel, out of sight. If you have cellulose it will lift the paint along with the glue. Try the warming method first - not too hot. Rub it with your finger/thumb it may just roll off. And then we have the angle grinder Roger
AarhusTr6
Hahaa . . angle grinder! Oh would be fun!!!
rcreweread
Rich You could try some other solvents such as meths, nail polish remover ( acetone) but as Roger says, try them on an inconspicuous bit first - the latter is the only thing which gets cedar sap ( very very sticky) off our modern cars paint without damaging the paint - it might not be so good on cellulose though - cellulose thinners will also get the glue off but also the paint! You certainly seem to be getting stuck in to your 6 - keep keeping us posted! cheers Rich

Tim T
B and Q do a product called De-solv-it which works well and does not damage paintwork. I have been using it to remove original adhesive from wheel arches. Tim
Sapphire72
Adhesive remover won't damage the paint.
Geko
I always have 3 basic solvants: Thinner, Acetone and Turpentine. Turpentine does the jobs very well for any adhesive and without damaging any kind of support.
AarhusTr6
Morning . . missus's nail remover didn't work. Will pop to Bauhaus which is the nearest we have to B&Q
AarhusTr6
Success! I used what we call here in Denmark cellulosefortynder . . or direct translate Cellulose Thinner, or what you'd call paint thinner. I found best thing was applying and rubbing with an tooth-brush, that worked really well and it had no affect on body paint. Hope this return feedback is useful!!
