Malocomotion
The battle ! what do you think about that ? Yes, i know, they all have wire... but i 'm against wirewheels and Motolita with plastic center, but it's another story. This way, the Italia looks a liitle more Maserati, isn't it ? Paul Harvey
Patrick, You will have the only Italia in the world I have ever seen on steel wheels. Nardi was the optional extra for steering wheels, and they look great in wood. Nice colour car!
Paul Harvey
PS. Neil Revington's #250 (Yellow Peril) and the only known racing Italia #210 both run on alloy wheels.
vivdownunder
Wonder if one chassis allocated to Italia had steel wheels to special order ?. Last time I saw #250 Yellow Peril here it remained on Minilite type alloy mags. Viv
Paul Harvey
Correct about Yellow Peril, very few ST records specified which wheels and tyres were supplied but some do. 'Spoke Type Wheels' were standard on Italias and quoted in the sales brochures at the time. I'm not aware of any which specified steel wheels but Patrick can do a trace at Heritage Motor Centre online for £8 if he wants to find out what is on the records about his #168 Edited September 21, 2013 by Paul Harvey
Malocomotion
Hello all, #168 was delivered with "spokewheels" but they are in a very poor state and i have a good pack of plain ones langing around. I love steel wheels with the hubcaps. so i intend to have the rigth side with Steel and the other with wire ! in order to make my mind....
vivdownunder
You probably know, but steel wheels will need longer wheel studs (shortened studs for wire wheel adaptors are unsuitable). Instead of wires on one side and steels on the other, you could do what the owner of this car did because he wanted spats. Viv
Malocomotion
Fun ! but spats don't suit Italia Very well ! Short studs seems right with normal nuts... but, if i had to change, i will ! How can i do ?
Paul Harvey
Patrick, You can get the correct studs for steel wheels easily enough from any TR specialist. The picture on the Italia Facebook page today suggests you may be the only Italia on steel wheels now, but not the first Italia to do so! #134 had steel wheels before wires were fitted later. https://www.facebook.com/triumphitalia2000
vivdownunder
There are challenges changing the rear studs as they are secured to the hub from the back. Front studs, which are different parts, are easier. Studs are typically shortened by 5/16" for wire wheels and the threads no longer fill the larger steel wheel nuts. Wire wheel adaptor nuts can't be used with steel wheels as they are too small and the chamfer isn't compatible. For years I had hoped to have the first Italia in Australia, but Rob S imported Yellow Peril #250 and beat me to the punch. Missed the silver example with Fine Cars in Switzerland in 2008 that went to the UK, then was offered the recently sold red Portugal car, but the timing wasn't right. Guest ntc
Yep Radio Gaga comes to mind in many of the asking price's but good luck to them
Alec Pringle
There have been higher prices asked for sidescreen cars with rally history, but what they sold for, if at all, is another matter. Cheers Alec
Paul Harvey
World record price to my knowledge for an Italia is $125,000 earlier this year in US. This silver Italia is gorgeous, I've inspected it and know the full history. Check out the leather headlining to the bonnet (!) and the highly unusual (original) fuel tank. vivdownunder
That looks very much like the ex Swiss car I was after as it was silver, same colour trim and on Webers. Viv.

Malocomotion
Yes the real car who began the rise of Italia prices...you know the story... a nightmare... it's just a tr3 with a lovely dress. And TR3 are very expensive for a very common car, isn't it ?
Davidw
Well, it's just as pretty as any Ferrari of the period. But it doesn't come with astronomical service bills. So from the other side of the fence, it's a bargain.
