foster461
Hi Chaps, Today am still awaiting parts, maybe tomorrow. Anyway thought i would clean the differential housing, after turning the crown wheel one full revolution, i was shocked to see one of the bolts that hold the crown wheel to the housing, half way out. It was only in the thread by a few turns. So how lucky am i, that i decided to fix the leak from the housing. The diff has been in the car untouched, apart from oil changes, since i have owned it. How many more miles would it have taken before that bolt fell out, which would of caused total destruction to the diff. So i am going to check all the bolts on the crown wheel are at the correct torque. My lucky day Cheers Guy You are a lucky guy, Guy. That could have been very nasty. It might be a good idea to put a new spring washer under that puppy before you torque it up. Stan
Tony Millward
Blimey, that was a close call Guy. I'd hate to think of the mess that would have made had it come out... Tony
Jersey Royal
Cheers Alec, Stan and Tony, Diff finaly sorted, back in the car with drive shafts attached, decided to replace the entire propshaft with an uprated balanced Revington one. Jersey Royal
Chaps, I have a horrible feeling that i checked the torque on the crown wheel to housing incorrectly Oh and its all back in the car, after a great deal of effort. I set it to 46 Nm, when it should of been 46 lbf.ft, which is equivalent to 62 Nm, oh sh*t and double Sh8t. Would someone please confirm the above one way or another please Thanks Guy

Jersey Royal
Guy, I might pay you to replace the spring washers with new ones now as they have been crushed once. Cheers Tony Tony, I have ordered a new set of spring washers . So thats the whole job on hold till they arrive. Cheers Guy However, I have diff off, cleaned of seal, and loosened every bolt on the crown wheel one by one to check the spring washer and retorqued. Each spring washer had sping left in it, none were flat. In your opinion would that surfice, i wonder about the quality of new offerings Thanks Guy Edited August 5, 2010 by Jersey Royal

New nylocs, reasonably tight, not going anywhere.... Ivor Hi Ivor Certainly would not want you to get a chill. Have to say pyjamas at 8.30 pm, luxury pure luxury, in my mad household i wont be jim jams, not that i have any, till midnight. Apparently correct torque for poly is 26-28 ft lbs.
