jstone
Hi all, Have just been reading an on-line article from a chap in the USA who fitted a Surrey top to his 6. Has anybody done it or know of someone that has done it over hear in the UK. I know it's not for the purists, but quite like the thought of it. Anybody got any views on the pros and cons Many Thanks Jeremy

robgeev
You might like to look at the posting regarding "badge design" a few posts down from this, has a picture of a prototype 6 with a Surrey fitted! Rob.
John Morrison
Nigel Cardale, Northumbria group has one fitted on his six. Get in touch with the local group leader he will have contact details, and give Ngel a ring, nice bloke, I'm sure he would give you the pros and cons. John.
Andy Moltu
There are several 6s out there with surrey tops. I would suggest it isn't a great option for several reasons. 1) The surrey screen was designed with the Michelotti cars in mind which have rather more curvey lines than the Karmann design of the 6. The more you look at a surrey on a 6 the more you see the two clash. Aesthetically displeasing. 2) If you are looking for a wind break the after market ones simply do it better - you get almost as much of a buffeting in a car with a surrey than a 6 with the roof down. 3) Putting up the surrey soft top is not as quick as putting up the standard soft top. Probably the only plus point is that having a surrey does create more luggage room behind the seats in that the space occupied by the soft top is freed up & you can stack it higher! I agree with you there Andy, the Factory tin-top does look much more "right", anyone tried a sun-roof in one?
Lockley210
Hi The addition of the surrey on my six has enabled the car to be used for family days out. In the past I have been able to have both my kids in the back and also the dog ! Sadly my 14 year old is too tall to fit now but my 9 year old daughter & Cairn Terrier loves sitting in the back. I am looking for a hard top for the winter to make it an even more flexible classic http://i211.photobucket.com/albums/bb314/L...10/IMG_0660.jpg http://i211.photobucket.com/albums/bb314/L...10/IMG_0656.jpg http://i211.photobucket.com/albums/bb314/L...10/IMG_0657.jpg Mark

I always thought the Surrey top was a cool feature though and the Stag top also. Mark, great looking TR6. Stan
roulli
Guy, Mark, is the colour of your cars Saffire Blue (code 96)? I'm asking, as my TR6 is frame off at this time and it would be the opportunity to get rid of the french blue... Cheers Patrick

I suggest trying it with the side windows up - at least 70% reduction if not more. Conversation possible at 80 mph thanks to less noise, too. It transforms the car to such a degree that going back to the soft top is unthinkable. Not that I want to gin up so much interest that quality alloy repros become available - I appreciate the exclusivity surrey tops have today
