Grahamgl
Gentlemen, I need to fit a new temperature sender to my TR4. I purchased an Intermotor unit but it was the wrong thread, the threads bound after one turn. I then purchased another sender from a TR parts supplier but I had the same problem, the threads bound just the same. Has the thread form used on new temperature senders changed,or, does my thermostat housing have a different thread type? It is on a TR4 that I imported from the USA. Thanks Graham
RogerH
Hi GRaham, have you got a tap of the correct thread (on the sender) that you can clean the female thread with.? If you run it in very gently then you shouldn't damage anything. Roger
BlueTR3A-5EKT
The thread is 5/8” unf. Never changed. Perhaps it was got at in a previous life? You are too far away to borrow my tap, but you can buy them for less than a thermostat housing. https://www.tracytools.com/product/5-8-x-18-tpi-unf-spiral-flute-point-flutelless/
Grahamgl
Roger/Peter, Thanks for your replies. Thread in the housing looks to be as original, no marks from recutting. The old temperature sender ,black top, screws in an out freely with no thread binding. If the recommendation is to recut the thread I would prefer to do that to the sender unit. Less than a tenner better than the cost of a new housing. Graham
RogerH
Hi Graham, I didn't mean for you to recut the thread but to simply clean it. OK - your old sender fits well. Where did you buy the new sender. The Moss number is GTR104 Have you compared the new & old threads Roger
