Rob W
Hi all.. finally making some progress. Welded the sill on and got the body.off the chassis. Chassis is really solid albeit grimy! the underside of the car is great albeit coated in the factory undercoat, the bits that have fallen off show really fresh white paint underneath. My question is whats the best way to clean and strip the undercoat off without damaging the paint underneath. Or being as it's so solid could I just put some raptor or other bedliner type coating over the top?

stuart
You would struggle to get it all cleaned off without chipping paint, I have used hot air gun and scraper or paint stripper will soften it enough to get most off though its really difficult again to get it sufficiently clean for recoating. Dont be tempted to try just recoating over the top and hope for the best. Its worth doing it properly and body colour underneath is much more satisfying . Stuart. john.r.davies
I've seen these working - they remove underseal, crusted mud etc and leave original paint! Miraculous but true! John

Tim T
I used a hot air gun and a metal scraper and cleaned the residue off with white spirit or tar and glue remover. The metal scraper is almost certain to cause some damage to the paint. A hard plastic blade of some sort should do the job but not too close to your air gun!
